Advice Please- First consultation ...

Hi very brief history ... I’m in my early 30s (no kids ). When I was around 17 years old I started developing awful period pain and between the ages of 17-22 was taken to A&E in pain , having collapsed . Nothing was diagnosed .

Then around 23 years old had a very understanding GP who had a particular interest in Endo . She referred me to a gynae after scans didn’t show anything . Long story short - I had a laparoscopy 10years ago and endometriosis removed from ovaries . I believe it was mild endo (never told a stage ) . Had coil etc but in recent years came off all hormonal stuff as wasn’t a fan .For me the coil was a nightmare - also I have a family history of osteoporosis, so I am very conservative when it comes to hormones.

Fast forward and in recent months I’ve been in agony . Started getting right sided ovarian pain and an ultrasound revealed a 2&1/2cm cyst on my right ovary . Scan also revealed I’m not emptying my bladder fully ?! Pain has got worse , I’ve been in agony in last few weeks and I’ve had to take time off work . It hurts to wee and poo. I have blood in my urine. I’ve got constant ovarian pain and am bloating massively . Went back to GPs who referred me to a general gynae specialist . The pain got so much in the last few days I’ve paid to see a leading endo specialist next week -I can’t wait any longer as the pain is becoming unbearable.

I really would like a lap as last time it really helped resolve my symptoms ...for a good decade . I’m very keen on actually finding out what’s happening ! What are the chances the specialist will suggest this ? Any advise on what is should say or ask in my consultation ?

Wow, your history and now *hugs*.

I found that seeing a private specialist they went straight to a lap to see and excise my endo which was great because like you I had horrible pain - my symptoms weren't as bad as yours though so I don't know how you're managing.

I replied to another lovely lady about what to ask at your first consultation, hopefully you'll find it useful.

If you can't access it let me know and I'll copy it out below.

I would say though as your last lap really helped focus on that and explain that point, to see what the specialist thinks.

Thank you so much for replying ! I have read your post and it’s so positive , it’s a joy to read . It’s given me hope !

I’m sorry I’m having to go private, but I just can’t wait and I have researched the consultant and he’s very well thought of on here and my friends and family .

I’m so glad you are doing so well and thank you for your advice .
