Diagnosis advice

I'm new here and am just looking for some advice regarding a potential diagnosis...

I went to my GP today after collapsing in pain at the weekend. I almost called an ambulance but decided against it. I've had this pain about 5-6 times before (during sex, when urinating) usually about a week before my period starts. It's right down low, hard to pinpoint where exactly but in the general reproductive organ area and feels as though I am being sliced open. I had an ectopic pregnancy a few years ago and that wasn't as painful (I didn't have any pain relief at all - not even paracetamol) so I do have quite a high pain threshold so I know what happened at the weekend was bad. I have always had incredibly painful, heavy periods and was on the pill for this reason many moons ago.

GP refused to send me for further testing. Feeling really confused as I don't know where to go next or what to do. I am still in pain today, it's more of a dull ache, but it's still uncomfortable when going for a wee.

I would appreciate any help that anyone may be able to offer.

Hi - if you look at the NICE guideline it says what symptoms doctors should refer you for (you need one of them). But it's not really a very thorough list - the best resource is chapter 1 of the ESHRE guideline which underpins UK treatment. If you 'fit' based on these you can take them to your GP and ask for the guidelines to be implemented. Note that you must only be seen by a gynaecologist with specialism in endo and not a general gynaecologist

Your acute pain could have been something like a burst cyst, which could be endo-related but also perhaps not.

It would be a good idea to start keeping a pain/symptom diary every day, which could provide the evidence over time to help you to get referred (see Lindle’s post for which ones to look out for especially.)

Best wishes x
