I'm feeling a bit confused

Hello ladies,

It's been awhile since I have last posted but feeling confused and don't know what to think about the information I have been given.

I seen a gynecologist the other day. He was very supportive and spent a lot of time with me. Wrote everything down about my symptoms and what I've been experiencing.

He told me he thinks I have endometriosis as does my doctor. He has prescribed me a pill to take for 3 weeks have a week break and carry on with this for 3 months. If it stops my period I have endometriosis and if it doesn't stop I have IBS. Is this right? Also he has advised me he won't do a laparoscopy because I'm 22 years old as it affects my fertility and may cause more problems for me due to my age. He said the only cure is to get pregnant as I won't have periods for 10months. I told him my doctor has advised me to have the mirena coil. He said I wouldn't give you that at the moment as it can cause damage and stated my age again. I will be seeing him again in 4 months time.

Has anyone experience this or can give me any advice?

Thank you

I had the marina coil at 24, no kids, and before an endo diagnosis. My gyno was still telling me at that point I was crazy and pain was normal.

It was the most horrific experience. Everyone’s experiences are different, but I was told as I hadn’t had children I should never have been given it at all. I had constant pain and bleeding for 5 months, and ended up having emergency scans because they thought it had pierced my uterus. Even at this point, they refused to remove it. I had to tell the doctor I would attempt to remove it myself if he didn’t.

Sounds like your second doctor could be correct with this advice. This is the only part I can give experience with I am afraid! Good luck.

Hiya there, just thought I’d message to try and give some advice if I can. Of course any of this could be different for you as everyone experiences endo differently! From what I know from family members and my own experience the pill doesn’t always stop periods when taking it for 3 weeks and then having a break period for 1 week. In my case I’ve been on the combined pill and progesterone only and if I have a break on the combined I have a breakthrough bleed and bleed anyways on the progesterone only, my sister and mum also have had the same thing. I have had endo confirmed via laparoscopy so what they’re saying isn’t always right.

Generally from the sounds of it I would suggest that you get a second opinion from a different gynaecologist if possible as what they’re saying isn’t always correct.

Pregnancy is not a cure for Endo, it may help relieve symptoms due to not having periods in some cases but then again it may not. I’m on the combined pill continuously so no break week and I don’t get periods but still get endo-related pain.

I’m not too sure on the advice as to your age on both having a laparoscopy or the mirena coil affecting fertility (some other ladies here may not that) but I think that view point all depends on who you see. Although I’ve not had the mirena myself as family members haven’t agreed with it, it has been suggested to me in the past when I was 23. I had my lap two years ago at 23 as well and there was no mention of it affecting fertility, but that could just be something my doctors neglected to mention or thought it was worth the risk due to the amount of pain I’m in daily.

Sorry for the wall of text but I hope some of this helps and that you can get a second opinion!
