Hi everyone, so I had the strangest pre-op ever the other day! Was at a different hospital to where I’m actually having my op.
A nurse come over and put a hospital wrist band on me which confused me instantly then she started asking me some personal questions in the waiting room.
Then I was called through to see a doctor, who did not have my notes asked me what surgery I was having done, she did not weigh me just guessed my bmi was not high, she told me my op is day surgery and I should be under for about an hour and able to go home the same day and to take my normal pain relief on the day of the op I take morphine and naproxen. Which just does not sound right to me. So I left that room feeling very confused. I no my surgery will be longer then a hour I have stage 4 endometriosis with a frozen pelvis!!
Then I had to go back and wait for a nurse to do my bloods. Was waiting for nearly 2 hours then when she did come and get me I was taken on a ward with other patients on it which again was very strange and she did my blood pressure but the oxygen thing they put on your finger was not working so she just left it. Then took my bloods and was like that’s it you can go now.
So all in all it was a very very strange day. Anyone else every had a pre-op like this? Anyone else who is stage 4 how long did your operation take? Thanks xxx

I agree that’s very weird! Not sure they are communicating properly with each other or you. Did they even talk about your op? My pre op they discussed the op in detail and recovery. I would be very anxious that it’s the right op! Do you have an admission date?
No she asked me what operation I was having done! I’m like your the doctor. She only said how long it would take because my mum asked. No my mri is on Thursday just really hope I have another appointment before my operation. Xx
Yes it’s all a bit weird. It sounds like they have a generic pre op assessment and the nurse and drs are ticking boxes. As a nurse myself it’s a worry how we’re cutting corners as this is where errors will occur. Hopefully you signed your consent form with the consultant- if you haven’t then my last op I had a brief 5 min with consultant & did it then. If your anxious call the secretary and double check what your on the list for. Good luck 🤞🏻
That is a strange pre -op however for one of my surgeries I had a phone call pre-op.
In terms of your morphine and naproxen however I have just had a total hysterectomy and take large amounts of morphine I was told to keep taking it as normal and as I needed on the day but you need to make sure when you talk to the anaesthetist that you tell them exactly how much you have taken that morning and in the last 24 hours. They then use this to alter the drugs they give you whilst you are under.
