Weird periods! IVF regulation? Please don't read if TMI

Hi ladies,

Due to have a laparoscopy soon to check for endometriosis. After the results, we will be hoping to progress with IVF. My question is, that I have very strange periods!

I normally have a very light, dark brown blooded (sorry!) periods for around 3 days. I then have terrible pains and really heavy bleeding. So do the doctors generally try to regulate periods in advance of IVF? My gaeny believes my period begins at the point that I bleed heavy.. but I'm not certain if this is the case? I obviously don't want anything to hinder the process - so just want peace of mind about how they work with someone like me whos periods are a bit iggledy piggledy!

Hey- so yeah ur period is classed as first day of red bleeding. Mine are like yours- a cpl days of dark/brown then I get proper blood... I wouldn’t worry too much about that cos with ivf they give u medication to shut down and then start a period x

Ah fab thank you! I thought that may have been the case. Bloody periods.. 😩😂 I dont know about you but the few days notice helps to know when a horrendous day of pain is coming. Hope you don't suffer badly with yours. Thanks for commenting xx

Sorry! Just been reading up on a few of your threads, looks like you suffer horrendously! I hope your recent treatment helps ease things for you and I hope your taking it easy and looking after yourself xx

Fingers crossed it has! Thank you, so bloody nervous to go under but it needs to be done and I'm in autopilot so not an ounce of fear will be getting in my way lol xx

I may have some possible good news — after a lap to thoroughly excise the endo, my period has stopped being like yours with all of the brown blood and is now the “right” colour both at the beginning and the end! So I do think the endo was causing the weird things about it. (I agree with your gynaecologist about the brown days not being the part you count from btw.) x
