I went private 4 months ago now, the doctor diagnosed me with endometriosis when I had an operation on the 22nd January however, in the first consultation he told me that the tablets I had been taking for the pain (that my gp prescribed me) were making it all worse in the long run, I was on zapain, I also had been given dihydrocodeine,(didn’t take them much as they made me sick) and then tramadol, these were making my bowls flare up which caused pain and had to be unstuck in my operation. He told me to take colpermin peppermint oil (an anti spasmodic to relax it) paracetamol and ibuprofen for the pain and these all together should work like tramadol but without the side affects. The last couple of days has been a little painful however, it does settle down when I’ve taken all 3 tablets. I’ve now come on my period (which I didn’t expect) so I will build these tablets up in my system for the duration of my period.
I hope this helps other woman too
Don’t get me wrong I’m still in pain occasionally and we shouldn’t have to suffer however this may be a better way to control the pain.

Just from experience and medical conversations; ibuprofen works best when pre-loaded as with all NSAID's so you can take it before your period and then during. Ibuprofen can cause an upset stomach; I have to take omazeprole (prescription - you can get esomazeprole aka nexium without prescription) with mine (just in the morning) - it reduces the effects of ibuprofen on the stomach lining.
Colpermin is an expensive branded peppermint oil! Docs will suggest that because it's a brand - been through that discussion and the doc actually agreed with me that they can't just advise peppermint oil they have to say a particular product. You're better getting it from a health food shop just as peppermint oil capsules, it's like 5 times cheaper for the same thing! Peppermint oil is a natural remedy that calms the stomach reducing irritation. I have found it helps with my endo bloating and gas.
Yes ibuprofen definitely works better if you can start taking it before you experience pain so a few days before your period is due if you're regular and make sure you take it every 4 hours rather than as and when you need it. I've taken tramadol and codine for pain before and IMO they don't help with pain, just make you high so you're less aware of the pain. They're serious drugs and should be used as little as possible!
Couldn’t agree with you more about those drugs. I have avoided tramadol as in November 2018 I had to take a fair amount one day to make it into work, I was completely stoned which made me merely unable to focus on the pain or anything else and after several hours of nausea from the tramadol I eventually threw up violently( I had taken it intermittently for 18 months only on unbearable days). Since that day I swore to never use tramadol again. I now use paracetamol combined with ibuprofen and have found this much more effective and without side effects. GP’s need to stop dishing out tramadol so freely and take it back to basics and start with base painkillers used in the right way.
