Hello! I am 22 years old. I started my periods when I was 12 and I first started to experience bad periods when I was 13. I have been to my GP many times. I was put on the pill when I was 15. I feel that the pill has helped to manage my symptoms but I am concerned about the potential long term affects (if I have endometriosis). I tried to come off the pill because I have depression and I hoped this would improve my mental health but my period pain was horrendous so I am back on the pill. When I am not on the pill I seem to have worse symptoms which include intense period pain which prevents me from doing anything as well as diarrhea, vomiting, sweat, feeling faint, and very changeable body temperatures. I also have pain during and after sex but this isn't every time. I also get very tired and tend to sleep more than anyone else I know. Does anyone have advice about how to convince a GP to refer me to be tested for endometriosis? What did you say to make them listen? My pain is being managed but I am concerned about my future.

Hi Tmlnsn,
Sorry to hear what you've been through. I have had unexplained pain on my right side and it's taken almost 10 years for a doctor to listen. Part was my fault as i took what my first obgyn said as law. Your best bet is to demand a second opinion. Tell them you need to see an in gym, if they don't listen start going to the ER when it gets bad. That's what I had to do. I've just had laporscopic surgery last Friday to remove my right ovary and tube that my new obgyn believed was the problem as I'd had 2 ectopic pregnancies on that side. Keeping my fingers crossed that once the healing is done, the pain is gone. You can't take no for an answer, it's your health and your body is telling you something is wrong. Good luck! Hope you get some answers soon
