Hi, I went to a Pilates class on Wednesday, I really struggled with it my hips cramping and now for the last 2 days have a lot of pain in my lower back and a deep pain in my lower tummy (ovaries). I know its normal to ache after working out but this feels worse then normal. I'm just wondering if it gets better after the first class or if I should avoid it all together. I do yoga and have no issues with this. Thanks Rachael

Hey,

What you describe sounds exactly what I've experienced. I took a while to get diagnosed so went to physio and a physio led pilates class to try help my hip and lower back pain. It left me in the agony. I perceived because I thought it would help but 6 months made no changes and it always hurt. It was the physio that suggested I see a Dr which led to a referral to orthopaedics and then my diagnosis of severe endo.

Obviously every body is a bit different and our endo could be affecting us in different ways but I would say severe pain is probably not ok. I used to do weight training and you get delayed onset muscle soreness which can really hurt but it's almost like a good pain if today makes sense. What I got after pilates & doing my physio exercises was not a good pain, it was a constant and didn't ease when I wasn't using the muscles.

I also do yoga every day and never get the same pain. I not sure why it's so different.

I still don't know much about my endo and why it causes me so much back /hip pain but I'm seeing the gynae in a week I l hopefully get some answers then.

I say, trust your instincts.

Thank you so much for your response that was really helpful, glad its not just me! I know muscle pain is normal but it just feels very painful on my lower back. I havent been diagnosed yet but have finally been referred to a specialist just awaiting my appointment. My first lap they found adhesions and scaring but no endo but this was done by a general gyne. Fingers crossed I might have more luck with the specialist as something isn't right.

Fingers crossed you get the answers you need at your appointment :)

I had a lap 2 years ago and nothing was found. My recent mri found extensive endo so it was either missed or is grown like wild fire. My symptoms are the same I suspect it was just missed. It was general gynae for me too.

I don't have any period issues just really bad fatigue and back/hip pain so I think I don't just tick the usual boxes.

Good luck with your specialist appointment! 🤞🏻

I'm sorry to hear that it was missed the first time and had spread so extensively. Most of my pain is in my lower back and ovaries, I get severe bloating. I'm on a constant pill so don't get periods anymore but my periods used to be quite light only lasting a couple of days. I was told it was a PID after my first lap but although some symptoms are similar it just doesnt fit...

I was similar I had such pain & exhaustion with most exercises and thought Pilates was the answer. Even though Pilates is gentle and good for joints I had to stop and the teacher encouraged me to carry on. I managed about every other class for 2 months and then stopped. It is frustrating as I can’t exercise and I’m became so low & gaining weight 😕
