Bleeding after first zoladex implant

Hi all

I had my first zoladex implant 2 weeks ago.

On the same day I stopped taking the contraceptive pill as advised by my specialist.

4 days later my period started which I was surprised about but then thought it made sense as I had stopped taking the pill and that’s when my period would normally start.

My period was heavier than it had been in about a year but nowhere near as painful as they were before my op (in March).

Since then I am still bleeding. My periods have always lasted 7 days but I am now on day 13!

Feeling so down about it as I really didn’t want to start the zoladex but thought a positive would be to not have any periods!

Has anyone had bleeding after having zoladex?

Or could this be something else to add to my health problems?

Hey! It takes a couple of weeks for the zoladex to shut off the pituitary gland and it increases the hormone level to start with until it shuts off. So you get worse symptoms in the first few weeks then it will all shut off and you won’t get any periods etc. I’ve had mine for about 9 months now - after the initial part if was like a wonder drug! Xx

Don’t worry I’m on injection 5 and I bleed for about 3 weeks after 1st one. I had coil removed when I had first injection. I hadn’t had a bleed like it in ages very heavy & clotty. I then had lighter & lighter bleeds monthly for next few and I didn’t bleed this month at all! Good luck x
