Endo with no symptoms, missing periods

Is it possible for endo to mess your cycle completely? I didn't know I even had it until they found a chocolate cyst in my ovary and extensive adhesions in my belly. They didn't say I needed surgery or anything. Since then I have been missing cycles. My doctor says endo has nothing to do with it, but I have had endo with NO symptoms!

Have you had a laparoscopy to diagnose the Endometriosis?

It may not be Endometriosis. I am no doctor but the cases of Endo that I’ve known of have all had symptoms such as painful periods, painful sex, infections, frequent urination etc. So if you’re not getting any of those symptoms then it may not be Endo but every case is different.

Has your doctor had any other explanations for it? I hope you find a solution soon! xx

I have had 2 MRI scans and I was diagnosed with endometriosis after those. I have an endometrioma in my left ovary and all sort of damage in my pelvic area. My doctor says 50% of women with endo have no symptoms. I really don't know what to think.

Yes, I’ve been told that too. Lots of women with endo have no pain or symptoms and also that some with endo, who also have pain - their pain isn’t necessarily related to their endo. If you had extensive endo on your ovaries it could interfere with ovulation but other than that, it may just a totally different cause like hormone imbalance or stress.

my surgeon said, you can have no endo and all the symptoms and all the endo and none of the symptoms, I really do think that’s why it’s one of the hardest gynaecological conditions to diagnose x

It is absolutely possible to have advanced endo and have no symptoms - when this happens it's called 'silent endometriosis'. It is quite often only detected when fertility problems arise or by accident during unrelated medical procedures. It is well documented and becoming more commonly understood that severity of symptoms does not necessarily correlate with the severity of the disease. You might have no symptoms and have a severe case or a mild case with agonising pain. One of the mysteries of endo is that no one really understands why this is the case. Personally I have only moderate endo but it causes me pain and other symptoms every day.

But as already mentioned the only true way to diagnose it is with a laparoscopy.

I'm afraid I'm not sure about if it can affect your cycles but my period has definitely changed and become less predictable since I've had symptoms of endo.

Hope this helps x

Firstly, totally possible to have endo and no symptoms, as many have said.

Secondly, I find my endo massively messes up my periods. I can go from a 50 day cycle, to a 25 day cycle, to a 18 day cycle, and then have three months where it's 27 days each time. My endo specialist has told me it's perfectly common to happen this way, but it doesn't happen for everyone who has endo. My ovaries were completely covered in endo and had been dragged down, attaching themselves to my bowel, my lower uterus and ligaments. I had them moved back during my excision surgery but it appears they've already been dragged back down again. If you have endo on your ovaries, or large cysts, that could explain it, possibly. Ultimately, I've no exact idea why it happens, it just does :( It's super annoying, because there's just no way of knowing what's going on!
