Travelling with Medication

Hello Everybody, wondered if anyone could help me, I’m going on a much needed holiday before my operation in the new year, I always travel everywhere I go with my pain relief (a controlled drug) however as I am travelling long haul just wondering if anyone has done anything to prove the medication was theirs. Not too sure of the laws of the place I’m travelling too etc....I rang my doctor yesterday to get a letter but they said probably best to speak to my travel agent?!

Help needed please.....

Hi Vixlucy, I needed a letter from my gp confirming that the medication had been prescribed and all medication needed to be labelled with my details (as you would normally get from the pharmacy). It is dependant however on where you are travelling to as some prescribed medication is classed as an illegal substance in some countries. If you are in the UK you can get this information from the Foreign Office on the .gov.uk website.

Hope this helps xx

I requested that information from the foreign office for an up & coming holiday to Mexico. They have NOT replied to my email.

I had exactly the same concern when I went on holiday in September especially as one of my medications contains tramadol. I checked with my GP and he said the country I was going didn’t have any restrictions on the medications i would be taking. I kept them in my hand luggage and all was fine but it’s definitely worth checking. Hope you have a lovely holiday p.s I didn’t need my painkillers once whilst on holiday (first time in a year) made me realise how much of a trigger stress is in regards to flare ups and daily pain etc. it looks like the cure for endo is staying 2 weeks stress free in the Maldives ha ha ha, I wonder if I can get a prescription for that

Thanks for the reply, I didn’t find my Doctors very helpful at all, telling me to ring the travel agents.

Yesssss I can’t wait to be stress free, I’m going to Mauritius so hopefully it will be the same result!!!...if you manage to get a prescription sorted please let me know, haaaa xx Thanks again for your help x

I think you can travel with drugs If you hold a letter from Doctor. You might have to have a special security box or Red Label. Wouldn't travel to any country that has Control Drugs. Imprisonment for 20yrs or hands cut off! Check with Airport,Emigration as well. I have never tied taking Morphine to the Airport. You probably would still have to declare openly in Red Channel Everywhere

Hi, as others have said, get a covering letter from your doctor. Also, leave pills in their original packets so it’s clear they what they are.
