I trialled zoladax for a few months. I was told the main risk is loss of bone density causing fractures. I was given tibilone add back to mitigate the risk and had a baseline bone density scan before I started. To my knowledge People generally arent meant to stay on it for over six months at a time then come off again for a period to allow density time to recover.

drugs.com/sfx/zoladex-side-...

" The use of LHRH agonists is likely to cause reduction in bone mineral density averaging 1% per month during a six month treatment period. Every 10% reduction in bone mineral density is linked with about a two to three times increased fracture risk. In the majority of women, currently available data suggest that recovery of bone loss occurs after cessation of therapy.

In patients receiving Zoladex for the treatment of endometriosis, the addition of hormone replacement therapy has been shown to reduce bone mineral density loss and vasomotor symptoms."

Under posology

"Endometriosis should be treated for a period of six months only, since at present there are no clinical data for longer treatment periods. Repeat courses should not be given due to concern about loss of bone mineral density. In patients receiving Zoladex for the treatment of endometriosis, the addition of hormone replacement therapy (a daily oestrogenic agent and a progestogenic agent) has been shown to reduce bone mineral density loss and vasomotor symptoms."

This has helped myself so much too. I've just been told by my consultant that I have to start zoladax as the 2 previous surgeries and back to back contraceptive pill haven't worked as I'm still getting severe abdominal pain only on the left and heavy bleeding at least twice a month...he's going to do it for 3 month, come back for an outpatient appointment then if that works do the other 3 months allowed for endo...if it doesn't work then I don't know what will be next. They've done no bone density checks which I'm worried about as I'm quite slight.

If this doesn't work I'm worried what they'll decide next. As the last couple of smears have also came back CIN2 and have had loop biopsies to remove abnormal cell changes....so I don't know if the symptoms are that bad due to the endo and cell changes or individual issues

Eeek. I feel it's a lot to take in when I'm only 29
