I've been advised by my gp that I have Bacterial Vaginosis and have been given a course of Metronidazole 400mg 3 times a day for 5 days. I am not sexually active and cannot understand how I have this infection? I think I have Endometriosis and are going through the process to determine whether I have the condition. Is it possible they're linked? I had some swabs sent off following vaginal examination.
Thank you in advance.

Have you recently had the coil fitted? I had BV when I had my coil inserted. The BV soon cleared up after a course of antibiotics. I also have severe endometriosis but have never been told that they are linked....
Hi thank you for replying, no I haven't. I've just started the pill to help with painful periods. I just wondered if they were linked or maybe a coincidence? X
Hello, I have had several BV episodes in the last few years, it is not a STD and pretty much anybody can have it at any point. It is just due to your flora being imbalanced and therefore more of the bad bacteria grows vs good bacteria. Starting the pill can influence that. Metronidazole works a treat for it but do not drink alcohol whilst on it and for 48hrs after you finish the course.
