Help!!!: Guys I really need support tonight... - Endometriosis UK
Help!!!
Hey, I'm really sorry this has happened to you. I had my MRI on Monday and am dreading getting a negative result. Please do keep trying to find answers as it sounds as though endo could be the answer. Are you seeing a specialist?
Endometriosis can only be diagnosed by a laparoscopy.
You need to get a second opinion.
Is the gynaecologist you are seeing specialist in Endometriosis? It would be better if you get seen and followed up in and Endometriosis specialist centre. Miss Burlesque is right that diagnosis of Endometriosis is through Laparoscopy. I
Ah so sorry to hear they didn't find anything which is good news. Maybe I had a MRI and found I had endo- it may be something connect with the bowel area ask to be referred to a colnarectal consultant - sorry can't spell) I did and had a colonoscopy - you did to rule that area out by seeing the right people - where you are getting pain is the bowel area as well - Good Luck
With these scans you cant always see endo. The only way to get this diagnosed is with laparoscopy. Go back to gp or gynacologist and explain them that you are still in pain and this scan doesnt tell you anything. Scans are great for cysts and obvisiously pregnancy, but endo is so small they wont be able to see it. So good luck with the next part of your journey!!! And make sure they will listen to you.
I haven't been offered and MRI, I had an ultrasound scan and a transvaginal one, both showed nothing. I was sent to a specialist who told me I have all the classic symptoms of endometriosis and I've been put on the pill for 3 months without a break. Next month I have to go back to speak with him and arrange a laparoscopy. Tell your doctor you want one! Hope you feel better today xx
Persist and get a second opinion I had a laparoscopy by a gynaecologist who said there was nothing there when I went for a second opinion they diagnosed and removed three patches of endo. Doctors are not right 100% of the time. Good luck
Possibly adenomyosis & or endometriosis. The other girls are correct, you'd need to have a Laproscopy by an Gyno specialising in endometriosis. I've had 3 laparoscopies since March 2011 and wish I'd have gone to a top surgeon specialising in Endo straight away and might not have problems with endo stage 4 and adenomyosis I have now.
Good luck
Hi, I think most of us who have or suspect endo can understand the frustration of another negative test and dr telling you you're completely healthy. No one wishes for a serious diagnose, but it's a horror to be in so much pain and not knowing for sure what it is, worrying about what it could be! As others said MRI is not reliable for diagnosing endo so insist to your dr. that the positive result doesn't mean anything (your doctor should know that btw and it's an outrage that we sometimes have to educate our doctors!). Endo is only diagnosed with laparoscopy unless you have a chocolate cyst. That one can be seen on ultrasound. If endo runs in your family, mention that to the dr, because you get much higher chance to have it then and my new dr took me seriously instantly when I said my sister had endo. If going to another dr is an option for you, try asking around for someone who is understanding and won't fob you off. I have a coworker who's had 5 children and problems with cysts. I asked her which gynae she went to because with all those things I thought she'd be experienced. She did recommend me a wonderful dr. So try go by recommendation if it is an option, I don't like in the UK so I don't know how your health care system works.
Definitely get a laparoscopy. Whilst going through IVF and failing they mentioned minor endometriosis during scans but said nothing to worry about. I however did and went to see a specialist in endo. Had laparoscopy last week and he discovered I have stage 4 endo which means it's everywhere, bowel, bladder, womb, ovaries and has fused everything together. No wonder I couldn't conceive!! I am back in again on 14th December for another laparoscopy and removal of endo.
Endo can be missed on an Mri, you need a diagnostic laparoscopy at an endo specialist centre. Also possibly referral to gastroenterologist to get you checked out for other inflammatory diseases etc.
If you've had 4 laps what were they for and was it a general gynaecologist? (if you don't know - Google their name, you'll usually be able to find some blurb somewhere to see what their area of specialism/interests are I.e. If they deliver babies you're not seeing the right person!) a friend of mine was fobbed off with pcos and had several surgeries before they finally diagnosed endo. Keep pushing for answers and investigate the other possibilities too.
