Hi,

I've been on amitriptiline for about 2 years now, and I know exactly how you feel. I don't find them helpful for pain relief as I still take strong painkillers every day, but I find it does help me sleep. You will definitely feel drowsy from them, and feel quite groggy the next day very similar to a hangover but you gotta just push through and keep busy. I remember the first few months of taking them and I could have easily layed on the sofa all day everyday because they made me feel so tired and lethargic. You will get used to it though hun. A lot of people say they should be really good for pain relief but they just help me sleep lol.

Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon xxx

What dose are you on? I had 10mg tabs, but they were just to help me to sleep through horrendous menopausal hot flushes, that were keeping me awake. The flushes were eventually making me so ill that I was having muscle tension & migraines from the sleeplessness. The amitrip worked for that, but I found even 10mg made me groggy the next day, so with GP's blessing I tried 1/2 and even 1/3 tab.

Also, if they are making you too groggy, take them earlier, but after your evening meal. I found I would be okay for the evening, but then go out like a light.

However, I'm surprised they are being prescribed for endo. I know they are rarely used as antidepressants now, and more for migraines, insomnia and fibromyalgia (where they have helped lots of people hugely), but I find it hard to believe they would help with endo-type pain, that much.

There was a post about this last week, have a look. While I think Amitrip has it's uses, I'm not sure they're fit for endo.
