Ouch: I started hrt two weeks ago and have... - Endometriosis UK
Ouch
The hormones from HRT can trigger any endo in the bladder to reactivate and bleed and irritate the lining of the bladder - you can ease that by drinking more not less and flushing the irritating flood away as much as poss, if it is the cause.
First though do get the pee checked to rule out any UTI as infections can be more likely to flare if the conditions are right and a change in body chemistry could just trigger that to happen. Dormant and hidden microbes hiding behind biofilm layers just waiting for the coast to be clear before they break free and replicate like crazy. Ecoli bacteria is notorious for doing this to ladies with endo.
A UTI needs attacking with antibiotics and may need several one after the other of multiples at the same time to do a decent job of breaking through the biofilm and killing off the master bugs that hide there.
If the UTI test is clear of infection then you need to be looking to your diet to try and calm down the bladder.
Some ladies on the forum swear by waterfall-d-mannose.com/
D-mannose will help with symptoms although it may not be enough in itself for relieving cystitis it would be worth trying. I have it in my sights for next flare up though not yet tried it myself, a friend of mine is very happy with it. She has IC not endo.
It is available from health food shops and also online on amazon and other retailers. You can read the user reviews for it there too.
If the HRT is for GnRH and causing the cystitis then you really have to make a decision whether to stop the GnRH and the HRT and try and get back to normality. GnRH (and the HRT) is only given to try and improve quality of life, if that doesn't happen and side effects are out of control then it is probably better to quit than put yourself through much more of the same. This you can stop at any time -it's entirely your choice. GnRH is voluntary -you don't need to complete the course prescribed (unlike with antibiotics - where you do have to finish them.)
all the best for finding the cause, and getting well again....sure isn't fun having pee pain.
I used to get really bad utis when I was on the pill. The only way to stop it is to stop taking the pills. I feel bad for you though as I know how painful it is. I had to choose between endo pain and the utis, I chose to put up with the endo pain.
