Anybody no which is the best endo centre
It's personal preference and your GP probably doesn't know any more than where the accredited centres are - it's not their job to know more than that and unlikely they have first hand experience of them etc. You're lucky your GP is giving you the option and not just referring you to the nearest one. It depends on your priorities, some women want to go to their nearest centre and there's a lot to be said for that (I travelled over 100 miles after 2 big surgeries last year and it wasn't much fun!), but I wanted my surgery with a specific endo gynae. If you don't have the name of a particular surgeon you want to see then a good starting point would be to research the nearest 3-5 accredited centres to you and look at reviews online (there are other forums that do name names), some of the gynaes will also have their own websites, and try to narrow it down that way. Remember to also check out the details of the endo colorectal and urology surgeons at the centres if that's relevant to you - they are often as important as the gynaes.
Il also message you the name of my doctors x
Pick the one you find it easiest to get to, remember that if you use public transport to get there and end up needing a surgery then it is better to get someone to drive you back from surgery, so find one that has easy access by road from where you live.
you are in the middle of several options there.
do you head up the M6 for manchester or mersey side?
do you head south west to the bristol area ones?
do you head to central london where there are so many?
do you head to greater london where there are a few?
Without there being as yet a fully accredited endo centre in the midlands you have your pick, but all will involve the logistics of getting there and back perhaps a couple or more times before you get your op, and if you get your op, you may need to visit the night before to have a blood thinner injection done then get home only to have to set off again at the crack of dawn for the hospital again (in which case maybe wise to check if there is a cheap B&B nearby rather than undertaking so much driving)
you will have to do some homework on which hosp location is likely to prove the most useful.
Perhaps parking costs might have a bearing too, if you are on reduced income and intending to drive to appointments yourself.
I travel to an accredited center in London from Birmingham, and it is worth the journey. The NHS will even reimburse your travel expenses, although I choose not to. When I have any surgery, it will not be the most sensible location to travel from but I suspect given the journey home, I might be able to stay in over night to reduce the risk of complications. I am just pleased to hear that your GP has offered to refer you, as a lot of GPs are reluctant to refer outside of their geographical boundary- I had to submit a complaint to my GP after they refused three times.
I'm from the midlands too I travel 202 miles to get to mine which is about 4 hours with a stop for the loo or drinks. I'll pm you and tell you who I see xxx
Thanks everyone still looking to find the best one but yes if I have surgery the closest would be better will let you all no my choice xx
Thanks will have a look x
