I saw the doctor who said it looks like I have endometriosis and I have been referred to a gynaecologist and I just wondered what to expect?

Hi amarsh, the Gynae will ask you a whole load of questions about your symptoms and which ones you have. They will ask if you have pain during or after sex; so don't be shy. Tell them everything. They might have a feel of your tummy. They will then decide if they think it sounds like Endo. The only way to diagnose Endo is for you to have a laparoscopy. It all depends on the Gynae really. They might decide to do an internal scan or MRI first but in my experience the only way to know for sure is to have a lap. Take a list of your symptoms to refer to. Hope this helps! Good luck! X

Hi amarsh,

Have a look at our publications

endometriosis-uk.org/public...

There's even a consultant questionnaire which you'll find really really useful on your first appointment with your gynaecologist, there's also lots of further information all about endometriosis, hopefully you'll find all the publications useful and informative.

Good luck with your first appointment, my top tip is to write down everything you want to ask, and everything that you want to tell the gynaecologist during your appointment, that way you'll know you've made the most of your appointment...

All the best

Emma

Yeah, I agree with Bokkie. Make sure to take a list of your symptoms. I find I forget some of them, and if you could keep a pain dairy between now and the appointment that could help. I would write down any questions you have too. My specialist doesn't just feel my tummy, he does a bit of an internal exam - so be ready for that. But its no worse that a smear test. They will probably want to do a lap. In which case there is lost of info out there on what to expect and how to recover. the endo uk factsheets are great. Good luck! xx

Thank you all for your responses. I'm new to all this, had issues since being 12 and just being told what it could be at 21. Every ache and pain I've ever got I just assumed was normal and everyone gets aches and pains, now I'm worried that I'm making note of every pain and it isn't even relevant . Thank you all for the help and kind words xx
