Can you get pregnant on the prostap injection ( I got told by a nurse you can't)

Im on the prostap injection. I have had my 2nd one. Stupidly me and my boyfriend had sex but it wasnt protected. Can I get pregnant? Im not having periods just blood on off days and a nurse told me I cant get pregnant as the prostap cause my overies not to work

YES you can fall pregnant and you should use condoms when having sex - because birth control pills etc will not work when you are on the drug.

Getting pregnant while that drug is in you puts the pregnancy at risk of spontaneous miscarriage and the health of the growing baby at risk of foetal deformities.

The patient information leaflet is quite clear on this subject.

You can fall pregnant and you must use barrier contraception- in other words a condom or a cap (or both) and spermicidal gel to avoid a pregnancy-

And continue to have safe sex (or no sex) for 4 months AFTER the last dose. That is 1 month while the drug is working plus 3 months while the residue of the implant or injection is floating round the body.

It is not a safe drug for pregnancies.

In theory your ovaries should both shut down and not ovulate- but that does not always happen to everyone. It might stop periods but still have your ovaries working enough to ovulate every now and then or even throughout the course of treatment.

In itself Prostap is not a contraceptive....though with a zero libido and dried out vagina - it will probably be the last thing on your mind to do- even so - better be safe than sorry.
