Hello Kymmy.

I do not suffer with mastitis at the time of my period but I do suffer from painful breasts and lumps.

I have had scans of my boobs and thankfully everything is normal.

It was suggested that I take an Evening primrose supplement to help. I have been taking them for 5 months now, and my breasts are less painful .

I hope you can find a solution for your problems.

Yes. My gynea says it's not actually mastitis but just pain. I get very swollen breasts & my nipples are really painful. The best help I've found is to use is Starflower Oil.

I hope you can find it helps you too.

My mum swears by cabbage leaves on the nipple for proper mastitis, but it is most unlikely you do have that if you are not lactating and breast feeding. If you have got both your breasts infected with bacteria then anti-biotics from the GP will help.

However if the pains are coming with each cycle then much more likely they are hormonal based and are causing both boobs to hurt rather than from a bacterial infection which normally affects just the one boob at a time, unless the feeding baby transfers the bacteria to the other one.

BC Pills or controlling your periods to stop them (mirena coil etc) and level out the monthly fluctuation of hormones is probably your best bet to overcoming this each month.

I’ve been searching for women that have been diagnosed with reoccurring mastitis too. I’ve had three bouts of it. The first time I was given antibiotics and it went away. I notice a milder case that seemed to go away on its own. Now I’m experiencing another recurrence. I’m on meds and it seems to be getting better. I’m not breast feeding and have fibrocystic breast. It seems to always come right after my period ends. I’m going to see another breast specialist. Curious is anyone else has experienced something similar.
