Hi, If you dont feel like you can do your job then dont go back. I had laprascopic surgery for severe endo in June, I am a housing related support worker and visit people in their homes on a daily basis, I'm always on the go, I needed to be feeling fit before I could go back and that took me 7 weeks, I had a few infections that knocked me back and severe pain. Im still in pain daily but I am learning how to manage it. I did go back on a phased return and found that much better than just back in to it full time. Dont let your doctor rush you in to anything. Take care X

Hi, just came across your post. I am a teacher too. I had a laparotomy 6/7 weeks ago (lost track!) I am signed off till after half term. There is no way I would be able to go in and do my job at the moment. I would say take all the time you need. Even though you didn't have open surgery you have still been through a lot. Don't rush back in!

The consultant at hospital wrote my sick note for me. I don't think a GP is experienced enough to tell you how long you need to take off. I don't mean to sound disrespectful to GP's!! It's just that in my experience they are ill equipped to deal with this sort of issue. My surgeon was adamant it would take 3 months to feel pretty much back to normal. I only had a cyst removed, it was a bit complicated. There was a concern about ovarian cancer, it started off as a laparoscopy and became a laparotomy as the bowel was involved. Fortunately everything came back benign.

I have found the whole thing emotionally and physically exhausting. We must be patient and look after ourselves.

I hope you are back on your feet again soon.

Xx

Thank u so much it was actually my consultant who for some reason I found he was not focusing on what I was saying I don't want to be mean but he turned around saying any operation takes no more then sux weeks I understand if it is something to do with keg or arm but this is abit sensitive and coping with all of the stress related to it is too much I think only women doctors should handle this kind of cases as u think they have more understanding

I have managed to get some time off thanks to the Gp

But not very happy at these nhs consultant what's do you think should I make a compliant ?

6 weeks?!! If you look on the Royal College of Obs and Gyns website I am pretty sure it will say something different! I think at 6 weeks you will be able to do a lot but it's the internal bruising that you need to watch.

Take a look on this wbsitercog.org.uk. Plenty of information and been recommended by two gynaecoloists.

I don't know whether it made any difference but I went private. The reason being I was very worried about it being cancerous. I was told on the NHS it would have been fast tracked but I would still have waited a few weeks. I have got to say the treatment I received was fantastic.

A few weeks after my op I was back in hospital, a different one, NHS. It was dreadful! It wasn't anything to do with my surgery. I think they were being over cautious as I'd had recent surgery. I was vomiting, low bp etc. Most probably a bug. Anyway, I couldn't believe the difference in care. It really shouldn't be like that but it was. I am sure not all NHS wards are the same. I understand that they are overworked and understaffed but things like medication being forgotten about, no communication about what was happening. Not fed for 3 days without anybody really telling me what was going on! Awful!

If you feel that you weren't dealt with appropriately then maybe you should complain. I didn't bother but I do know that 2 people had complained on the ward I was on.

Wishing you luck xx

Interestingly my consultant told me that any open surgery would take at least 3 months to recover from. X
