Tampon or not?

Hi Ladies

I have been advised by my consultant not to use tampons as he is concerned that this also affects back flow - but I can't stand the smell from using the pads especially as I am currently living in a hot, humid country does anyone have any advice please?

Many thanks :0)

It's not pleasant is it. I can imagine the climate making things even worse! All I can say is that my solution was to shave all my hair down there off - I felt more able to stay fresher and clean that way. Changing pads more often and then quick washes - obviously washing alot affects the natural cleaning that the body does. And then if still feel conscious then spray perfume, body sprays or even fabreeze onto the outside of your clothes. But saying all this, the smell is probably not as bad as you think.

xx

This is my documentary video on my recent surgery and my theories on causes/cures based on my research. Please watch it and share. It could help save a life. Some sources say 5 - 10 million women in America are affected by Endometriosis. World wide, who knows. We must stand up for the truth and dig deep in the medical literature and research and question the motives of those who are sharing study results as well. God bless you all for sharing your stories. There is a product called a mooncup that one of the girls in my support group uses and loves it. It is inserted up like a tampon but just gathers the flow in the cup. You remove it every few hours dispose of the flow, wash and reuse, She swears by it. I've just googled it and you can get them via the Internet.

Wow I was actually thinking about reasons for getting this nasty disease. I have used tampons for most of my life and I also have cysts on both ovaries (not sure if its endo yet) but this very thing crossed my mind. Do tampons stop the everything coming out your body? My consultant hasn't mentioned this to me. Has anyone else's consultant?

Hi hun, since my lap I haven't been able to use tampons, I don't know if it's psychological or scar tissue or what but I now find them incredibly painful. Pads are horrible, I totally agree and I constantly walk around in fear that everyone can smell me!!

I use femfresh wipes and femfresh deodorant and scented pads. I feel very clean and refreshed and the deodorant has a very pleasant smell and makes me feel nice and dry and smooth (strange as that sounds!) ☺hope this helps!

Hello, my consultant hasn't mentioned about tampons being a cause, but I have read about it elsewhere and it seems to make sense.

They are a convenient way for us women to stay focused on our jobs, daily activities without being so distracted by our women's monthly, but thinking about it; it is SO unnatural. Menstral flow is called flow as that's what it's meant to do right?

I didn't use tampons so much previous to my current job as it was more flexible, toilets were easier to get to etc to change a pad regularly, but since moving company a few years ago I had to wear them religiously and even double up with a pad due to back to back meetings, long hours and inconvenient facilities. Toxic shock syndrome was the only thing in the back of my mind as possible side effect but didn't think of endometriosis. It's really since then my symptoms have raised their head.

Obviously we can't put it down to this one thing, but it would be interesting to find out how many ladies out there with Endo use/used tampons as their menstral sanitary of choice...? Has anyone seen any reports or stats about this or any other cause?

A tampon doesn't stop the blood from flowing out. It just absorbs the flow.

Experts are still questioning retrograde menstruation as the cause of endometrosis.

This disease already causes us enough problems. It comes down to personal preference, but pre-Mirena when I was still bleeding heavily it wouldn't even have occured to me to use a pad. Yuck.

Tampons all the way for me.

When I was a teenager, my periods were floods. I tried using tampons for a couple of years, but whenever I was in nauseating pain, I always felt like changing the tampon for a pad, and it always made me feel slightly better.

Then years later, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Endo and all the adhesions etc. So it makes sense to me to avoid tampons.

I use Naty pads as they are made of corn starch and better for the planet :) I get them from Ocado (Im in the UK) and they are just as secure as Always, and I find them better than Bodyform by a long shot.
