Headache und Stiffness a sign of relapse?

My 18 years old sun was diagnosed with autoimmune encephalitis from unknown antibody in October 2018. He was getting better very slowly since then after steroids, plasmapheresis and rituximab every six month. He developed a very strong headache two weeks ago, almost after getting up in the mornings, sometimes in the evening as well. He also have stiffness during the night. Could that be a relapse? Thank you very much for this support community. We are from Germany

Hello Marty1234, welcome to the community and thank you for sharing with us about your son' s autoimmune encephalitis. If he is experiencing new symptoms like strong headaches, he should see his neurologist to get them checked out. The headaches could be related to fatigue, or a number of other factors - but relapses are possible with autoimmune encephalitis, so it is best to consult the treating physician any time new symptoms occur and you are worried.
