Cough at night

Hello. Do any of you struggle with a cough at night? I suspect an allergy to dust or cat hair. Every night I wake up with a cough. 2-3am. I'm tired of it, but I think it's 100% allergy because when I take benadryl allergy for a few days, the symptoms stop, but benadryl cannot be used for longer than 14 days . What other pills do you recommend?

By cloves. Some good deals can be found if you buy a kilo or more. Cup of clove tea before you go to bed. That should cure the problem. Or anti allergy pills. Good luck. Research cloves online YouTube etc.

Late but not least ! Hope you’re doing better and have found a treatment but just incase you haven’t yet. Chamomile tea is effective for allergies i have heard. Also have you ever thought if you might have Asthma. My daughter always had night cough and since she had cows milk allergy (certain dietary allergies cause cough too) I thought it might be that. shes 4 and a couple months back she was given the inhaler and only after about a month of using it religiously, she’s not coughed again unless cold or flu .. so maybe consult your gp with this concern

I have a confirmed house dust allergy and this causes swelling blocking the nose and making breathing difficult. It doesn’t give me a cough. I was given a number of prescription treatments and none had the slightest effect. The consultant that did blood test to identify the allergy in the end accepted that I could use Sudafed at night to sleep well. That has a limited time of use but I have been using it for years.

I also believe I have a cat allergy which I have only experienced when staying with a cousin who had two cats. That made my nose run a lot but soon ended when I left. I didn’t get a cough.

My conclusion about allergies is that there are no cures for any of them.

You can be tested for allergies either a blood tests or one under the skin by a trained doctor or nurse.

Keeping pets out of the bedroom is important if you are allergic to them. Changing your clothes and having a shower before bed should help. It is possible to buy a spray which neautralises the protein on the skin of the animal. I've tried when visiting family. Has to be used three days in advance - PetalCleanse or Allerpet.

Dust mite is harder to deal with as they are easily found in bedding, carpets, soft furnishings. I started a low dose immunotherapy course for dust mite and moulds just over a year ago and it does seem to be helping. I had to see a private doctor(in the UK).

Antihistamine tablets can help but the effects wear off when you take them all the time. I have asthma and take an inhaler which helps and montekulast.
