Leg tremors

I've been getting a lot of leg pain while on holiday due to walking more than usual. Does anyone experience shaking legs / tremors after walking. I have been going up and down steps a lot and as soon as I stand still my legs start shaking uncontrollably. I would be interested to know if this is a common feature of hypermobility/EDS.

Sometimes after an intense workout the nervous system which causes your muscles to contract becomes fatigued causing your muscles to shake. Sometimes shaking is due to low levels of glucose in the muscles or electrolytes which are necessary for muscle contractions, or due to being dehydrated, if you have been walking in heat too this will make you worse especially if you are not used to walking quite as far, try and get a rest in between, drink plenty of water and electrolytes, eat something like a banana to fuel any glucose deficiency you may have and see how you get on with this. Don't be put off by this experience walking is very good for us just try not to overdo things too much otherwise you can get fatigued and laid up undoing all your great work, watch over extending when you are getting tired, so easy to flick those knees back too far, take smaller steps when walking up hill and don't over stretch your steps.

Just got back from another active day. Legs not so bad as sightseeing was broken up by periods sitting in the car so I think building in rest breaks is important. I agree exercise is beneficial. I have my first physio appointment in a couple of weeks so I will mention the shaking but I think you are right.

Yes definitely mention to physio. In the meantime have a wonderful holiday, if you are able to get any swimming in that is very kind if done gently to help you body and joints.

Is it triggered by a lot of activity?

Hi marieflynn

If you are having issues with shaking legs with no exercise and say when you stand then there is a relatively rare condition called Primary Orthostatic Tremor. Primary orthostatic tremor is a rare movement disorder characterised by a rapid tremor in the legs that occurs when standing. The tremor disappears partially or completely when an affected person is walking or sitting, you can read more about this on the following link but lots about it if you search using the condition and the link also outlines other conditions that might be causing you or anyone else for that matter with shaking legs:
