Any aids for getting out of bed and walking?

My Ehlers Danlos consists of long term muscle spasms. I take celebrex and diazepam constantly.

I recently provoked an old injury to a vertebrae between my shoulders by leaning too heavily on my walking stick each type I took a step as I also heavy v. heavy legs as a side effect of ovarian cancer treatment.

Every time I try to get out of bed I further injure my upper spine, shoulders, even though I roll over onto my side to do so.

Also, any walking aide recommended? I tend to drag my right foot and trip at uneven pavements.

At least the walking stick stopped me in my tracks. If I get a rollator, I am concerned I will go careering down the pavement when I trip.

I can't lift anything of any weight.

Thanks for any advice.! Emma

Hi, I often hurt myself getting out of bed or just rolling over in bed so I got a bed frame gadget thing. i don't know if it has a specific name and it may be something you already know about, but anyway, it is metal tubular and goes under the mattress and then the metal tube loops up on both sides, this gives a secure 'handle' on both sides that I can grasp to help heave my body over without straining my back or core muscles. you place it under the mattress up at your head end and it doesn't interfere with sitting down on your bed. I use it to help me roll over and then raise myself up to a seated position and I can then lean on it to fully stand up. I can also hang onto it for a few seconds if I feel dizzy on standing. I got it off Amazon and had my home help put it under the mattress. It was about £20. Hope you can find something to suit you.

You could post this on the MS site as we suffer many of the same problems. There is medication for drop foot that helps walking called Ampyra. Just a thought as sometimes we need to think out of the box. Best wishes for you. 🙏🤗💕

BTW The Occupational Therapist solved my getting out of bed problem by supplying me with a bed that moves vertically up and down at the press of a button and you can also raise the bedhead and the foot of the bed independently. It has been a godsend. I was given a 3 wheel walker/rollator which is fine on the carpet but dreadfully dangerous on pavement so I spent hours studying websites and eventually found what I needed in a local shop, having first decided on my priorities for the wheeler from the websites. I have a degree in wheelers!
