.I recieved a letter from my gp to tell me this. meanwhile my gp left the surgery and i was faced with a new gp who seems to think this is normal..I wanted some kind of diet to help myself and some information. It seems to me that its all hush hush and the dr doesnt even want to disguss it...where as my last gp offered me medication for it which i refused at the time. I think there should be some kind of help available....
Hello i dont no if anyone has experience... - Early CKD Support
Hello i dont no if anyone has experienced the same situation as me.I was diagnosed with ckd3 my gfr was 57.
Hi,
I won't say your GP is wrong but it surprises me more that your previous GP offered medication...
I have to say that with your gfr you might still have lots of years to go so I woudn't really worry too much. Every persoon is diferent, I think if I were you I would be more concern about why you have ckd. There can be lots of diferent reasons and that is the first thing you should find out.
Up until last april that my gfr went to 19 I only saw my nephrologyst once a year since there is not much to do but to try and control the syntoms. A diet is indicated as far as a know as from predialysis since is the time your body really starts keeping things like potasium and phosporus. But if you want to do something already, try keeping active, do some exercice you like and try to avoid this:
Chocolate, sodas like coca-cola, industrial pastry, dried fruits, coldcuts, and fast food.
Those are the first things that goes out of your diet if you visit a nutricionist at stage 4.
Hope you can find a way to talk to your GP and don't panic!!
Take care!
Yes, I have experienced exactly the same situation as you! I also received a very impersonal letter from my surgery, saying I had CKD 3, and giving no help or advice whatsoever. My GFR is around 50. I was quite scared until I found out a bit more about it - thanks largely to this site.
My GP also told me not to worry, and gave the impression there was absolutely nothing I could do about it, which was very upsetting to me. I felt I would just get progressively worse and be helpless to improve matters.
Of course, there are always things we can do to help ourselves. Try to exercise regularly, and keep at a healthy weight. A healthy diet is very important, though I am still trying to find out what are 'good' and 'bad' foods for CKD. You'd think that patients would be given a leaflet on this right at the start - but no, like you say, it's something that doctors just don't seem to care about. At least we can share our experiences here. Try to be positive, as I've learned that it's possible to stay at CKD 3 for many years and not deteriorate.
Im glad ive found this site i feel so much better knowing other people have had same experiences as me..I dont understand the food thing either theres lots of foods ive cut out but thats just because i dont fancy them anymore..also i notice i feel rough when i eat certain foods so am doing my own thing....thanks for your advice.....
I found pre dialysis , like Roxe said not suprised the GP says not to worry yet . But Like you I wanted to delay dialysis as long as possible so Stopped eating potatoes that had not been boiled, reduced my intake of things like tomatoes , avocardos, dried fruit and nuts, chocolate. If you totally eliminate them from your diet to soon you will find you find your food boring. So the trick is to just moderate it which allows you to have a varied diet and still beable to go out and enjoys meals out etc . Good luck with things
Your GP should check your blood pressure and cholesterol levels as these need to be within the normal limits as it may affect your kidneys. If they are high then you may need some blood pressure medication or statins to help you keep it down (this might be what he offered you?) Stage 3 is a moderate decrease in kidney function and needs to be monitored by your GP so ask him to keep his eye on it from time to time (say 3-6 monthly). With a eGFR of 57 you needn't cut out any particular food group but have a healthy, well balanced diet with plenty of fruit and veg and cut down on salt if you add it to your cooking. Generally, make sure you have a healthy lifestyle with some exercise if you can. If the eGFR continues to fall then your doctor should take steps to diagnose the cause. If you want to ring the NKF Helpline we will be pleased to talk to you Tel 0845 601 02 09
My blood pressure is normal and and cholesterol is normal........but will keep it checked every 6 months....I think to send a letter to a patient from your gp saying your at stage 3 when it says theres 5 stages is at first worrying... if you no nothing about it...I feel they should explain to patients what the stages mean and ask the patient to go into the surgey for a talk with the gp so the patient understands it better something needs to be done...
I was diagnosed with CKD3 eGFR 59. My GP has referred me for a kidney and urinary tract ultrasound and a urine test to measure protein level. GP decided to investigate further as 'only' 51 which she thought a little young to be at this stage for no apparent reason i.e. good blood pressure and cholesterol rate. Waiting for scan appointment to come through.
Ah interesting let me no how it goes.......
