Stage 2 CKD, egfr 85 at age 18 and I need some help from you

So I went to my gp last 3 weeks to do some regular check for my asthma but while doing some regular check, my gp told me to do a urine test(just to make sure I am okay) but when I get the result, they told me that my protein in urine is +2. After a few research and went to my nephrologist, he told me that I got a ckd stage 2. I am quite terrified for that but oh well now I knew that this disease is not uncommon. So, I need some help from an experiences friends on how you do or make to preserve your kidneys for years to come? Any answers would be much appreciate

May god bless you :) and keep smiling!

Hi Markhafiz

If you are in stage 2 you can stay there for years with a good diet.you need to go on a very low protein and potassium diet.stop eating red meat(full of potassium) bananas potatoes all dairy.

Find a kidney dietician and follow her guidelines it is very important for you kidney health....we only have two to last a lifetime. You are doing well so take care.I.m on the above diet an my gfr imoroved and so did my creatinune so good luck vaw777 xx

Hey vaw777xx, thank for you reply. I have stop eating anything that related to meat and might be considered to be a vegetarian. I only drank barley juice for a couple of weeks and i think because of that some trace of blood in my urine that I've found earlier are completely gone but the protein still exist though. I have a bad fever last week but I am now okay. I have read a few article mentioning that soda bicarbonate is good for the kidneys, what do you think about that sir?

Have a good day sir! :)

Just be sensible what you eat ! Very hard at 18 I know but everything that you eat at some point will go through your kidneys . Sounds stupid but when the food enters your stomach it gets broken down and passed through your stomach lining into your blood stream . Your kidneys filter 200 liters of blood every day so they are quite a busy organ ! Keep away from processed food it contains lots of chemicals and preservatives . Try and make as much of your food as possible that way you know exactly what you're eating ! Fast food is ok but as a treat KFC is loaded with salt and Mcdonalds is loaded with sugar . Do a bit of research on Renal diets they are all over the net ! There are a few good American web sites but obviously different food to UK . I've had CKD 17 years it's a slow progressing disease I'm also diabetic which is the main cause of my kidney deterioration . I'm on dialysis and have been for 6 years every night connected to a machine for 9 hours . If you start looking after the kidneys now they will in term last longer ! I'm only 37 which is considered still very young to have the problems I'm having now ! Need any advice on foods just message me hope this helps :)

vaw777 -

I'm going to take your advice to drink water 2 before breakfast 2 before lunch and 2 before dinner at night. I've just tried to drink more water, but had no specific plan, and probably don't drink enough. Is there a specific reason for drinking the water before the meal?

Hi Markhafiz

It is really good this has ben diagnosed early. There is still so much unknown about kidney disease. My nephrologist said there is absolutely nothing one can do. Well, reading everything I could it does seem that a vegetarian diet helps. However, not so simple! We also need protein because the kidney is losing it in urine. If we don't supply enough our bodies will get it by breaking down our own tissue. I think the best approach is to have good animal protein but be strict about quantities. I found the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary site very helpful. EdRen.com. A vegitarian die with enough variety should also supply all the essential amino-acids. i.e. the building blocks of protein.

This, of course, is only my opinion.

Best wishes

Manon

Hi there. my husband takes bicarb of soda capsules 3 times a day as he simply cannot drink lots of water he vomits it back. This has worked well for him his egfr from 27 to 38 at present. He is active, blood pressure fine, not diabetic or overweight. Does not have a diet as such because protein is necessary for health so our nephrologist advice is.. all things in moderation and that has served him well...We are happy smiling and getting on with life, anxiety and fear are a waste of time and energy. Stay well and positive. Love Belle x

protein in urine is that kidney does not work properly, did u see a nephrologist , to determine the damage u have to take an ultra sound scan of the kidney , it will give a good picture of the kidney to the radiologist , who will write USSCAN REPORT.

tHE NEPROLOGIST WILL DECIDE WHATDRUGS YOU NEED TO TAKE .

kIDNEY PATIENTS are many over the world , as hypertensive patients , The problem is kidney problem at the age 18.

HOPE u will recover soon

YOU ARE SO VERY YOUNG FOR THIS, SO YOU HAVE A GREAT CHANCE AT CONTROLLING. DRINK AT LEAST A GALLON OF WATER PER DAY-BOTTLED PREFERRED. WATCH SALT AND PROTEIN INTAKE- I CAN ONLY HAVE 40G PROTEIN PER DAY- NOT EASY. PROTEIN IS HIGH IN MEAT BUT FOUND IN SO MANY OTHER FOODS-SURPRISING TO ME. WATCH MILK PRODUCTS-AVOID AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. DO SOME RESEARCH-DAVITA.COM IS GOOD SITE FOR FOOD DO'S AND DONT'S, AND RECIPES GOOD FOR YOU. VEGGIES ARE BEST FOR YOU- BUT I ALSO HAVE STONES-DIETS FOR STONES AND DISEASE CONFLICT. OK TO DRINK 7 UP, GINGER ALE- BUT AVOID ALL COLAS. WATCH INTAKE OF PHOSPHATES AND POTASSIUM- KEEP AS LOW AS POSSIBLE. I KNOW THIS SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF INFO-BUT ONE STEP AT A TIME. START WITH WATER AND LOW PROTEIN. RESEARCH AND GO ON FROM THERE. GOOD LUCH. PRAY- GOD IS OUR ONLY ANSWER FOR EVERYTHING. IF YOU CAN, GET APP ON CELL PHONE- LOSEIT---- IT IS FOR DIETERS, BUT KEEPS TRACK DAILY OF PROTEIN, CARBS AND FAT INTAKE- EASIER THAN READING LABELS AND WRITE IT DOWN. I GENERALLY INPUT MY PLANNED DIET FOR THE DAY- YOU CAN MAKE CHANGES IF NEEDED- HELPS ME WATCH PROTEIN EASIER.

Not what you're looking for?
