I'm a 77 year old male and after bouncing around in Stage 3b for a couple of years I started to get much lower results of 30 or 33, then my latest is Stage 4 at 26 eGFR. All other renal profile serum results are normal and my urine tests for albumin/creatinine ratio are normal. I've cut out added sugar and am trying to keep my protein consumption below 50g. Any advice?

Stage 4
i'm 73 years old, my egfr has varied from around 26 to 22 and back to 26 over the last 4 years. Your other results are normal so don't worry. It is quite normal for creatinine to have a 10% and up variation. Just keep an eye on your protein in urine test, you can buy dip sticks for this. Protein urine should be no higher than 1plus
Hi again, is protein urine the same thing as urine albumin? my tests show this as below 3mg/L
there are many different types of proteins in the body, the one that is measured is albumin, so yes to your question. I have recently read a book called Learn the facts of kidney disease by Steven Rosansky , M.D. It cost me a couple of £ from Amazon. I understand the most important guide for deteriorating kidney disease is a continuing increase in urine protein. If you are concerned, buy a couple of urine analysis dipstick to test your urine protein. Or take your urine to the doctors and they will do a dipstick test for you.
do you know the reason for low egfr?
is it due to diabetes or BP etc?
Not diabetes but probably BP, the BP is controlled but there's a big differential between systolic and diastolic, typically 130/65. I understand this isn't good
I was curious to know because my situation looks similar to yours.
I am 76 years old and all health parameters are normal except creatinine which is around 1.90 mg/dl since last 5 years. My nephrologist has advised that it is due to old age,
Not to worry. Just to monitor at regular intervals
creatine level is tested, egfr is only a figure used when combining creatinine, age and sex of a person. There are quite a few different reasons why people have kidney disease. Continued high blood pressure /diabetes could be the cause of CKD, but so could other things. egfr formula will drop as creatinine level rises.
