HI, Make sure that the medications you are on are not causing the high potassium. Many BP meds and some others will cause high potassium. The ones with "sartan" in the names are potassium raising BP meds but there are others. I was headed for very serious potassium issues and it turned out to be from my medications.

For foods, especially dining out....can be tricky. I rely on veggies for a big portion of my foods. But when out, you have less control. So when you know you are eating a meal out, make the rest of the day low potassium. For example, oatmeal for breakfast and then you can eat higher potassium for dinner. ( I only eat two meals a day). Stay away from potatoes for one thing. Try mac salad, cole slaw, or other side dishes instead. Eat only smaller amount of potassium foods such as chicken and fish. Pasta is great with different toppings such as broccoli and olive oil. Even alfredo.... but oh the calories. Stay away from tomato sauces as they are high in potassium and salt. I order eggplant parm with no sauce. If you eat salad, try for leaf or iceberg lettuce and not romaine. Romaine is higher in potassium. Eggs are good, egg whites are even better. Corn products are lower in potassium, so things like corn tortillas are good. Watch out for refried beans, or legumes in general. Bread is good but make it worthwhile with from scratch or a bakery. A Charcutier board can be fun with cheese and other pick things but stay away from processed meats such as salami. Lots of fruits are good like apples, cherries, berries, blueberries and much more.

And lastly, remember one meal will not do your potassium in. It is the constant consumption of something that causes the issue. If the places you go do not offer many choices, just be mindful the rest of the day and eat clean. This isn't to say you eat chicken or tomatoes every night, but one meal is not going to hurt you. Once I got off the medications, my potassium went down to high normal. I eat more freely, and it has not raised my potassium. Enjoy because Life is too short for this.

Thank you for prompt reply. Saw nephorologist & went over meds. No changes other than dropping ginseng. Have checked many websites & very confusing on potassium mg of foods. So if you you have any you trust, would be grateful.

Already big fruit & veg eater, staying away from potatoes swapping for pasta/rice. Have recently put more eggs in my diet. Also corn chips & wraps, bakery rye bread.

Difficult including something tasty for spouse who loves meat & potatoes. Have lots of bean recipes from his gluten free diet, but don't think I can have now, Correct?

Do have a garden so eating lots peas, zucchini, cucumbers & soon tomatoes that will be a challenge. Will probably freeze & portion, but still... Use to make chili & spaghetti sauce, soups. Looking for one pot nutritious meals, if have any to share or helpful websites. thanks again

Hi! Just a quick comment... I noticed you have a spouse. While it's easy to share meals, your spouse may need to follow a regular diet. I joined my hubby in eating low sodium, low potassium meals as his CKD progressed. I wound up passing out in public. The renal diet manipulates electrolytes needed for proper cardiac function and so on. So it's important to keep an eye on both of your lab reports.

There are so many reasons for high potassium. Mine can go up and down within days. I found it impossible to lower it with food. Too many foods have it. I just waited and it went back to 48. If your blood sample has been laying around or they took it with the wrong sized needle, it can result in a high reading. It's bound to be mostly a cause of your other drugs Are you on Eperlerone?
