I just joined here today at this moment 19.24 hours 18th of August 2021

My age 58

Until I had a prostate surgery operation I was a fitness fanatic, very healthy man,had to go through unnecessary prostate surgery operation that messed up my life completely.

Before that I never walked into a hospital I was a very very fit man .

Last year twice I admitted to A&E twice this year 6 times.

Today I just recieved my blood test results.

It says result Abnormal

eGFR creat (CKD-EPI)/1.73 m*2

When I was at the hospital last time (A&E) was told that my kidneys conditions perfectly normal

No blood results says different I'm confused and in pains.

I just want to chat with people here whom are suffering with same disease.

Thanks for reading

I also have had prostate surgery when I was 63. I also still take medicine for BPH. I was diagnosed with CKD at level 3b. You do not say your age so do not know what level of eGFR you are at. My Doctor put me on an appropriate CKD diet based on blood work. So far it has slowed down the progression.

Good Evening Thanks for your kind respond,

I'm sorry I should have mentioned my age, so I'm 58 years old.

None smoker ,was a social drinker past 1 year I don't consume alcohol at all.

As My post says until I had the prostate surgery operation (I strongly believe that they made a mistake with my test results biopsy etc.because of I was not in pains at all.was not getting up of the bed to pass urine etc.my bedroom life was Good.)never walked into any hospital for any kind of treatments.all I said to my GP was some times I feel that I dont fully empty my bladder that's all.

Than my life has changed dramatically after the surgery operation ofcourse I lived with a catheter about 1 week than pains all over my body never gone ,dry orgasm has given me pains, anyway that's not the issue but I guess I picked infections through the catheter. So since last year I'm having pains and had countless hospital A&E trips been made.but what I dont understand is why at A&E was told that my kidney are in a perfect conditions? Now my blood tests otherwise?

I am medically handicap person, there is nobody around me as well to help me out.have no family members as well.Girl friend became EX.

I dont know even those eGFR Meaning.

Thank you and apology please for this long message.

Yes you have reach a good web site for chatting and learning about CKD. It appears at 58 you are at CKD level 3b. Here is a link to information on eGFR from National Kidney Foundation. kidney.org/atoz/content/gfr

Hi. Welcome to the forum on which I think you will get a lot of good information and best of all some people to talk to. Just remember we are not doctors. We just share our experiences and "knowledge" about kidney problems.First of all, take a breath. This is not at all as bad as you may think. You say you don't know what egfr is. Simply put it is a formula that basically takes your age, sex, race and Creatinine level and produces a resulting figure. This figure then is assigned a stage of the health of your kidneys. In your case you are what is called Stage 3b (that is the same as me. My Creatinine level has averaged to be at 1.7 for about 3 years). Stage 3b is defined as MODERATE Kidney disease. Orangecity41 has given you a great link for more information.

Now keep in mind that Creatinine level can easily vary from one blood test to the next. You say your latest test indicated 1.73. You did NOT indicate if this is just one blood test or has been your creatinine level over more than one test, over a long period of at least 3 or 4 months. You see, creatinine level is easily influenced by many conditions. Dehydration raises it. Exercise raises it. Certain medications raise it. A diet high in protein raises it. Other medication conditions raises it. And more. So you can have perfectly normal, or near normal, kidneys but get a higher than "normal" creatinine level.

--Have you had more than one blood test that has shown an above average Creatinine level.

--What have your doctor(s) said about your 1.73 level

You said you had a normal blood test at a recent visit to the hospital. Then suddenly got this report. It would be unusual (but could be) to jump from totally normal and then very soon after that jump to stage 3b. Generally speaking kidney decline happens over time. Even having a normal test, then "suddenly" a higher than normal test, could indicate it is NOT kidney disease at all, but another condition such as a kidney stone or blockage (you said you have pain), or a urinary tract infection (you said you have pain), etc.

If it were me I would first go to my doctor and see what he/she says. Get another blood test (don't be surprised if it is normal). Perhaps (due to the pain) an ultrasound or CT scan is in order to see if there is some other kidney or urinary tract condition is the cause of the pain.

You can have pain caused by stage 3 CKD, but is a MAY, but not USUAL.

If I had to guess, and it is strictly a guess from a layman, your 1.73 is a result of something else. But if not, and it is a kidney disease, just remember you can live a normal, usual life and it is not a death sentence. There are things to do if it is CKD, but first find out from the doctor if it is kidney decline or something else. Here is a simply written website to describe to you CKD, stages, etc.
