Anemia Shots
Hi! I am going to be getting EPO injections starting next week. They're going to train me to give myself the subcutaneous shots to myself, at home. Then I apparently go in for blood tests every week or two weeks until my hemoglobin is normal. I've had anemia for the first time in my life since being diagnosed with CKD stage 4 8 months ago. Since I've been super tired, and short of breath, I'm looking forward to seeing if this helps. I'll post my experience here for people to see. Good luck !.
Anemia is common in CKD and everyone on dialysis has it. Fatigue and shortness of breath are side effects as Kindsong indicated. In addition to those, my husband experienced brain fog and became cold intolerant, the latter became profound as he neared dialysis. (This was a constant battle - I opened windows, my husband closed windows, my husband turned up the thermostat, I turned it down, etc.) Treatment for it involves iron infusions, expensive EPO injections, or both. By husband takes both at this point in his life. Occasionally people are told to take iron supplements which does very little in our experience. Treatment, if done well, should restore the body's iron levels to normal or near normal levels. And this will make not only make you but your friends and family very happy.
Hi I have had 3 of the Micera injections for stage 5 kidney disease. These are into your stomach every 28 days. The jabs are easy and it does leave a bruise. im working up to transplant and about to start dialysis soon. I feel fine though, had covid and got over it, working full time still.
