I have never faced this problem but today I have noticed reduced urine output (around 500 ML) after drinking 3 litres of water. My last gfr one month before was 25.
I have never seen swelling but today in feet, there is some swelling.
I am very tensed. I don't know what happening?? Are kidneys failing rapidly?

If I could offer any support at all, consider insensible fluid loss first. This is things like breathing, coughing, sweating and via bowels. If none of things really apply as in an excess of any of them, coupled with oedema then I would want to see my doctor. 3 litres is a lot of fluid to drink. Fluid output is not just dependent on renal function, there are various other factors such as those mentioned and heart function. In the meantime while waiting to see your doctor, why not keep a fluid balance chart? Document intake and out put and measure everything accurately. If you have a blood pressure machine take and record it randomly throughout the day so have something to tell the doctor when you speak to them or email. There are no real recommended fluid intake guidelines as everyone gives different levels. WHO recommend 30mls per kilo of bodyweight but this is a universal thing and therefore not a great one to use. Imagine a little old lady in the north of England compared to a robust active farmer in the middle east! NHS England recommend 1200 mls, RCN 1600 mls and British dietetic ass. I think is around the 1700mls mark. ( might have changed since i last looked so do look it up..
Also when you do the totals allow around 4-500 mls for insensible loss. It wont be an exact figure but will give you a partial reason for any differences. Hope that helps but again, speak to your doctor.
Hi Drakula. I’m actually going through the exact same thing right now myself, and after doing some research online, I found out that high creatinine levels can cause this to happen. I haven’t been including any extra salt in my diet, except for what is naturally occurring in the foods that I eat. But, in the past few months, I had been overdoing my protein intake, and as a result, my creatinine has been elevated.
I’ve now been working on eating mostly vegetarian meals, drinking a little more, and keeping my cardio exercises up to improve my heart rate. This is what was suggested online in order to bring creatinine down.
Also, is it possible that you’ve been consuming any foods and / or beverages that may be a little higher in sodium lately? That can also cause swelling. Also, remember too, if you’ve been engaging in more exercise lately and perspiring more, you won’t put out as much urine as when you don’t perspire as much. One of my doctors told me that years ago.
You mentioned that you’ve been drinking about 3 litres of water daily, perhaps that might be a little excessive for you. Ask your doctor for some guidance on the amount of water you take in daily, as this can differ for everyone.
I do hope this helps you, dear. Please keep us posted on how things come along. I wish you all my best! God bless. 🙏😊👍
One more thing I forgot to mention, if you’ve been overdoing your exercising (weight-lifting, or any other overly strenuous exertion), try to slow that down or omit it completely from your daily routine. Over-straining your muscles can also raise creatinine levels, if that is what’s going on. Speak to your doctor about your concerns. She / he should be able to advise you better. 😊👍
