Is rash on back a sign of further reductions in kidney functions

I’m 62 years old, was told 6 months ago that blood tests revealed kidney function only at 43%. Nothing is being done apart from being to ‘’monitor’ it...unsure what means but I have had rash on back for several weeks and thinking is that a sign of further reduction in kidney?

Hi indian57,

To be honest, I really don't know, but I advise that you see your doctor about this. We do not diagnose on this forum, only provide peer support. We are not a substitute for professional medical help.

Best wishes,

Hi. I am 69. My last test my egfr was 43. So we "match". And like you there is nothing being done except normal advice about diet, exercise, etc. There really is nothing to be done. I have been in this level about 3 years. Regarding skin rash. Go to google. Search on "skin rash and ckd". You will find many, many articles about this relationship of skin and CKD and rash. It seems on one or two of those I read it is more common in later stages of CKD. But there is a relationship. Educate yourself with the articles then as the nurse said have a discussion with your doctor. It could just as likely be unrelated and the rash addressed.

Thank you, normally I wouldn’t have given a second thought to the rash but really appreciate the support and information.

Rash, no pain yet? Could be entirely unrelated to your kidneys. Could be as simple as your washing machine not rinsing the soap out of your clothes properly. Could be shingles. Ever had chicken pox.? Go see your PCP and get back with me.

Thank you, like you said, I did read and it states itching can happen, before the diagnosis, I wouldn’t have batted an eye lip over the rash but now relating everything to the ‘possibility of deterioration of kidneys’. Really appreciate the response
