Who else has purchased Albutrix?

I have been reading Stopping Kidney Disease by Lee Hull. I buy into the very low protein diet but don't really know much about product. Have others used this product long enough to get blood tests verifying the results?

I was wondering the same thing. I am not loosing protein/ albumin in my urine but I do have a raised eGFR so I am thinking yes to low protein plant based diet but unnecessary to take Albutrix

Personally, I think Hull's book is mildly informative at best. I view it as mostly a sales spiel to buy his expensive Albutrix supplements. I own the book and couldn't believe there's not a single solitary word devoted to fluid intake, its regulation, or its effect on the kidneys. Not a word. The thrust of the book is to sell Albutrix, and the single paragraph summaries of the aggregate medical studies in each chapter basically offer nothing. Gist of the book; 1) eat an alkalizing diet, and; 2) buy his Albutrix amino acid supplements because getting the full complement of amino acids is challenging if you're gonna go pure vegan. Btw, if you eliminated the words "may" and "maybe", the book would probably be half the number of pages. Save your $23, folks.

I agree with you. Also the cookbook was pretty much a waste. It doesn’t have that much in it

His books were published 2 years ago. He states he has been in remission 10 years. Did he only write his books when he started selling Albutrix???

As many have said before, if Hull's was the miracle solution to kidney disease, then everyone would be preaching it.

OK. I guess the next question is if we agree Albutrix is reason behind the book, does his idea of no animal fats just plant based nutrition still make sense. Do we need to restrict protein? Interested in hearing other opinions.

I cannot tolerate meat or fish products anymore and no one seems to have an answer to this . This problem started at least 12 years ago before iI was told about my CKD . I struggled for years to find out what was making me ill , Eventually I tried cutting meat out of my died and day by day I began to feel better I have proved this to myself over and over again( love meat ) I am tempted occasionally to eat meat on the odd occasion and it always causes me problems.

Meat is protien , when .i found out about my CKD I have made the link but Drs just ignore it.

Exactly the same experience! Stop meat, my GFR went up 1-2 ml/min and felt great. Last month-this month, ate meat--chicken and fish, blood test last week is awful--high creatinine! My GFR down from 12 ml/min to 11 ml/min and joints pain coming back too. I am going back to low protein, no animal protein or fat today. Hope to get creatinine down.

I am going to do as he suggests try it for 90 days and see if my eGFR improves. I am going to go this initially with just a vegan diet and no Albutrix. I don’t think I have anything to loose. My urea is in the normal range and I have no protein/ albumin in my urine.

hey JackRussellTerrier , I just picked up Lee's book (interesting read so far) and already am on a 75% vegetarian diet by choice (I do eat chicken and fish sometimes). my GFR is ~46. Curious to learn how your GFR #s improve w/o the Albutrix supplements, and whether this supplement is really needed (or helpful). TIA!

The only thing doctors agree on is that the population in general eats way more protein than necessary and that it's "probably" a good idea to cut back to no more than .6-.8g grams/kg of body weight per day. Have they done controlled studies to back that idea? Of course not. Heck, they can't even agree on fluid intake per kg of body weight. Most everything with ckd "remedies" is anecdotal. Good luck on your journey.

He says in his recipe book, "I *pretty much still follow the diet, and am still *mostly in remission." I don't know exactly what that means? Too much a play on words.

Precisely. ;)

I purchased Albutrix, but didn’t stick to it longenough to notice any difference. I think I just didn’t want to waste time figuring out the correct dosage, plus I didn’t like the way it made me feel. I eat less meat, drink more water, watch my sodium intake and so far, so good.
