Antipsychotics Drugs Linked to Kidney Problems

Hello again,

I left my first posts a few days ago and at that time I forgot to mention that when I was first diagnosed with CKD one of the first things I did was go online and research. Not only did I research diet and causes of CKD but because I take multiple medications I started to look into each medication that I was taking. It just so happens that one of the meds that I was using was seroquel, an antipsychotic medication that I used for a sleep disorder I suffered from. To my surprise there are new studies out that suggest that these drugs may be linked to acute kidney disease or kidney damage. So without hesitation I decided to stop the seroquel all together. I did go through some withdrawal symptoms but nothing to bad. I had detoxed from oxys before so compared to that it was a walk in the park. I just wanted to share this with everyone here that you might want to look at all your meds that you are taking as well. I don't know if stopping the seroquel helped, but the way I look at it when you have a disease like this you have to put everything you put into your body under a microscope. All I know for sure is that my GFR went from 52 to 74 in 3 months. Of course my diet and lifestyle changes played a huge role in my progress. You can't expect your doctors to know everything so you have to take an active part in your fight against this disease. I pray that you find solutions to help control your CKD by coming to this site as well as others out there. A lot of great information and comfort can be obtained here. God bless you all and remember prayers work!!!

I am very interested in your experience. I take olanzapine and have also been reading about atypical APs causing AKI in older people. I have been trying to reduce my olanzapine for the last year. I will continue to do so. My GFR is 60 but I am getting older and more vulnerable. Thanks for your information.
