I am having a really bad sore throat. Do you think it’s ok to gargle salt water? I googled it and I think it’s ok but I wondered if anyone had any thoughts on that. I am thinking it’s ok because I’m not not swallowing any salt, I’m spitting it back out. Please let me know if you have any thoughts. Thank you 😊

This reminds me of what my doctors tell me. To NOT be too restrictive upon myself. Yes we are told to watch our salt, sugar, medications, proteins, beef, etc., etc., etc. But this does not mean that we go too much on any of these from time to time, the kidney or the CKD is immediately damaged. You could swallow a tablespoon of salt this minute. And it would not damage your kidney that moment. These things are restricted because too much, on a consistent basis, causes damage. Notice we are not told to eliminate these things from our diet completely. Your body needs some of these restricted things. As my kidney doctor tells me, if I want that steak once in a while, have it. I want that piece of sweet which is loaded with sugar, have it. Just don't go overboard, or frequently. So a day or two of salt in the throat (most of which is not swallowed) is not going to lower your egfr.
Are you sure that you don't have a strep infection? Strep throat caused all of my CKD issues and a kidney transplant as a result. You can always call your doctors office and get a throat culture. Now a days they have a rapid strep test and you will know right away.
