I went for a checkup and only problem whas my kidney count whas 57.is that a problem cos they gave me no medication
I am age 77 and diagnosed at eGFR of 50. There were also other factors in the blood work that were considered when Doctor put me on a renal diet, restricted on sodium, potassium and phosphorus . Be pro-active and follow up with your doctor and inquire if there is reason enough for you to be placed on a renal diet.
Technically, your GFR of 57 means stage 3 ckd. It is defined as having a GFR between 30-59. Not to be alarmed though: statistically, your risk of ever needing dialysis is very low. You can check it out yourself at kidneyfailurerisk.com/ . Besides, GFR can often fluctuate, up to plus/minus 20%. Subsequent tests may show a somewhat different result.
That is why they require repeat tests before diagnosing a patient. A GFR of 60 or above usually means "healthy"; it will only be considered stage 2 or 1 if there is some additional evidence of kidney damage. Having said that, I would recommend you to see a specialist to be on the safe side. Do repeat your tests a month or two later. Also get tested for urine albumin/creatinine ratio. And insist that they give you a cystatin C test. It often puts an early stage 3 patient back into the "healthy" range, even though not many doctors have heard about this test.
