I am new here. I am 66 yo male. BP normal, weight normal. I am diabetic but it is well managed. A year ago GFR was 60 over past year my numbers were dropping significantly 44, 44, and 38 just this week. BUN was also up to 36 and latest creatnine was 1.8. Until I can get in to nephrologist I am quite worried. anyone had this sudden drop?

Are you controlling salt intake? Are you drinking sufficient water? I would advise educating yourself diet-wise to see how you can take control of your numbers. Resources that have helped me:

National education, support and advocacy organizations:

• DaVita Kidney Disease and Dialysis Forums is well known for their recipes but they also have a forum for patients too.

• Renal Support Network provides many support and advocacy services including a phone support line.

• AAKP is a comprehensive resource focusing on the quality of life for kidney patients through education, advocacy, patient engagement and the fostering of patient communities.

National Kidney Foundation provides a portal for patients too.

I need a lot of education. I watched my salt but had too much protein and potassium. I used to eat a lot of peanut butter amongst other bad foods. I will work my way through the support groups.

I was basically doing everything wrong. I was eating lots of protein and drank a lot of dark colas. I also ate yogurt everyday. I was focused on my diabetes and kind of ignoring the kidney issues I am 6'4" and weigh about 170 lbs. I don't know about protein in urine. Not taking any water pills. Is that a diuretic?

Not what you're looking for?
