Aim 40 Years male , I have one kidney functioning since i was 12 years old because of a uric acid kidney stone , 7 years ago , 2011, i had to operate my only left healthy kidney to remove another big sized stone 6 cm x 3 cm !! My creatinine level before operation was 1.9

After 2 years , 2013, of operation my creatinine was 1.69 mg/dl.

I stopped visiting the doctor 3 years ago because i felt okay .

2 weeks ago my father passed away and since then i noticed change in the urine odor so i made analysis and the numbers came worse.

My creatinine level rise to 2.56 mg/dl and urea is 81mg/dl , I feel sore throat and itching and sudden headaches .

My blood picture is fine but my cholesterol is 270 ng/ml .

Aim on BP drugs , Appoval 300 & Norvasc also i tke pills of zyloric for the uric acid since 7 years .

i feel very depressed . Aim i loosing my healthy kidney ?

Sorry to hear the situation you're in.

It's worrying when you think your health is compromised. Often it's not as bad as you imagine.

Best advice I can give is to see your doctor to talk about this. It's always good to have a regular check up if you have had problems in the past.

I'm sure they can do all the tests you need and offer advice to support you.

All the best

I'm so sorry to hear about your father, CDK, and it's quite possible that some of the symptoms you are experiencing may partly be due to the stress caused by your sad loss. However, you should get advice from your doctor in the first instance in case your sore throat is down to a bacterial infection which would need antibiotic treatment. If so, and it becomes severe and is left untreated, it could be the reason for the head pain. Some years ago, I experienced a severe sore throat but the GP said it was a virus. As the throat eased, along came violent head pain and, to cut a long story short, I became very ill - the throat infection had been bacterial and I ended up with meningitis I don't wish to alarm you in any way but just to give an example of what can occur. So get checked out by your doctor as soon as possible on all counts, including your quite understandable concern about your sole kidney. You may just be experiencing a simple urine infection (strep throats can lead to urine infections). Anyway, don't stop eating proteins unless you are advised to do so. Always good for everyone to reduce their red meat intake though. Also drink plenty of water and reduce or cut out salt. What is your eGFR (kidney function)? Snap! I, too, lost my right kidney aged 12 - in fact, just a few days before becoming a teenager! That was very many years ago and I have had CKD3 for the last 10 years or so. Lots of good luck wishes when you see your doctor, and do let us know how you get on.

Praying for you Celtic. You were given great information. But following the Drs orders is important and renal dietitian advice is even greater.

I am 69 years old and my doctor told me I had ckd stage 3 gfr 54. due to high blood pressure. I was given BP medication. The foliweing month my gfr returned to normal 65. My blood pressure still high I was given a different blood pressure medication with a water pill. Over the next 6 months my gfr went from. 65 to 44. I went to a nephrologist. He tested my urine, and reviewed other blood work. He diagnosed me as having acute kidney failure. He said high blood pressure can come from acute kidney failure. He blamed it on different blood pressure medications I was given.

It took a year and my gfr is now 59. So my family practice

doctor diagnosis was wrong and now I compromised kidneys. GO TO A GOOD NEPHROLOGIST!! Don’t fool around with GP’s. Sometimes they don’t know what they are doing. You may/not have ckd. There maybe other reasons for a low gfr reading even after several tests are done.

I just visited my doctor who prescribed many tablets and requested X-RAY and Urine culture to check the presence of UTI.

Also advised to limit the protein intake to minimal possible with alot of water intake .

I should visit him again within 2 weeks time to talk again , he cannot tell now if it is a progression case or an acute case.

Good to hear you’ve been checked out and X-ray/urine culture arranged. I hope he also requested blood tests.

hi,I would have it checked out. Itching is a sign that something needs addressed, as well the urine color/odor. I had those things and had no idea I was walking around with a sizeable stone that the doctor feels is the cause of one kidney being damaged. He felt it had been in there wreaking havoc. I understand being scared.

I just have X-ray today . No renal stones but my sole left kidney has parenchymal echogenicity and preserved CMD .

My BP today jumped to 160/110 for one hour then dropped to 140/100 . I do not know why . I have sudden head aches that come and go .

I am similar to you. Have only one kidney. Creatinine 1.9 Which my doctors tell me is not unusual for a person with one kidney. My last ultrasound suddenly showed cortex echogenicity. But it says it is from long standing disease. However on all my previous ultrasounds not a word was said that there was any evidence of disease. Two different doctors have no explained to me what this all means. Just tell me drink water and keep your protein intake to the normal range of 50 to 70 grams per day. However I must say that a spike to 160 in bp is not great for the kidney. And then you say it lowered, but it still is way too high!!! You definitely should be put on some bp medications. My numbers were similar to you. Even the 160 spikes. I now take 10mg lisinopril in the morning and 2.5mg amlodipine (both drugs which are beneficial to the kidney also) and my normal bp is 110/55. Do I worry about this echogenicity? Constantly. But no one can explain it to me and what my prognosis is.
