Can atorvastatin lower your gfr
Kidney disease : Can atorvastatin lower... - Early CKD Support
Kidney disease
Hi, I am at stage 5 with only 14% eGFR. I was prescribed atorvastatin one 10mg tablet a day and also Alfacalcidol which is a sort of vitamin D. When I took them my eGFR fell to 12% and I felt unwell so I stopped taking them. It then recovered back to 14% and I felt a bit better. I saw the kidney consultant last Friday (20th July) and she says that the two events are NOT linked and that atorvastatin and Alfacalcidol will not have a negative effect kidney function and I should get back on the medication gradually. All I am doing is passing on what the nephrologist has told me. Personally I am not convinced and therefore have not got back on the medication as yet.
I heard the same thing from my PCP. That Xarelto didn't cause kidney problems. But, now we're learning the results from an NIH study and one in progress at the Mayo Clinic that even the newer anticoagulants DO cause kidney decline. Cardiologists will no longer prescribe Xarelto for their patients. So, sometimes the clinical trials need to catch up with physicians. Trust your gut instincts and listen to your body. Get a 2nd and 3rd opinion if necessary. Noone will care more about your health than YOU. Best of luck and hang in there.
Hi everyone just been to docs for blood test results and my eGFR has gone up from 44 to 62 so it looks like it was the atorvastatin that made my levels drop and now that I have been taking them for a while it has levelled itself out and even gone up more than what it was before I even started them so I am a happier little bunny
Are you saying your gfr went up again after starting to take Atorvastatin again?
