Hi There,

My mom is diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and her creatinine level is 2.4mg/dl... How serious is this?? Just in a week her creatinine spiked up to 3 and fluids went into lungs and she is having issues in breathing... She is hospitalized again... Can anyone tell me how this is treated and how serious is her condition??

THANKS

Hi

I'm not sure how creatinine is measured where you are- I guess you may be in the US? Here, over 300 suggests a need for dialysis. For your mum, her kidneys appear to not be removing fluid properly. Once she has a diagnosis, she may be given diuretics, possibly IV while she is in hospital, to remove the cloud. Kidney disease, when monitored carefully, can often be slowed down. Sometimes dialysis is inevitable as there is rarely a cure. Talk to the neurologists caring for your mum. They should be able to answer your questions x
