I am in Stage 3 CKD. I also have insulin resistance and the endocrinologist put me on Metformin 500 mg 3x daily. Can I safely take this drug with no ill effects to my kidneys?

klitten55 you need to get another Endocrenologist. I have stage 3 as well and my Dr took me off metformin and blood pressure meds to. I have been going to Nature's Sunshine store and been taking Magnesium for my blood pressure and I am controlling diabetes with diet. if you know your going to eat something that will make your blood sugar rise, eat raw Vegtables first, that will help keep your sugar down. I wish you luck and will pray for you as well. keep in touch..... Sthrnbell

In stage 3 you shouldn't exceed 500mg of metformin daily.

My Dr. Took me off metformin because it was affecting my kidney functio. Metformin is good to help blood sugar but not for your kidneys according to my experience.
