Welcome. Pain is a symptom, but a person can have loss of kidney function without pain. In my case, my loss of kidney function was discovered by my primary care doctor through a routine blood test. Check soon with your primary care doctor, who will tell you whether you need to see a kidney specialist.

I discovered I had it by accident in 2003, was told nothing could be done so I forgot about it as I had no symptoms. In November of last year I was reminded by an ER doctor who referred me to nephrologist. My GFR was 12! Now I'm actively monitoring to preserve kidney function and up to 15. The point is you need to have the lab work to check it out. The sooner you make lifestyle changes the better off you are. Prayers for you. God can do anything!!

Thank you. I hope I didn't give the impression that I'm not doing anything about my condition. My nephrologist sends me for lab work every 3 months and explains the results to me. I follow her advice.

Dear One, According to a lady nephrologist(Dr Kitty) whom I respect a lot, there are 56 types of kidney problems. On the other hand, I am not sure, but, I don't think if any pain is related to kidneys. For example, the pain may be related to the scoliosis(abnormal curvature of the spine). Any way, I think you should see an internal physician first, and then a nephrologist at the discretion of the first physician. I hope you have no problems. Do not worry.

Dear Salvador, I am not a physician and I am not sure, but I don't think if weight loss or bitter mouth have anything to do with kidney problems. I think 2 important factors(diabetes and high blood pressure) must be avoided. Of course, I suggest you limit protein, salt, sugar, fat and try to have some physical activities, also, try not to have psychological or mental stress etc. I wish you a very healthy, happy and long life.

I get a dull ache in my kidneys after I eat (as my main problem is protein leak) and/or if I let my blood pressure get too high for too long.
