I was diagnosed with right sided cervical dystonia (no tremor) a year ago. I met with my neurologist today who discussed all the possible side effects of the botox injections in the neck area and asked me if I still wanted to go ahead, I have waited so long, I said yes. However, I am slightly worried that I may end up feeling worse than I am now and the neurologist said there is a 5% chance of an adverse reaction.
Would be very grateful to hear from anyone who has had the botox injections to let me know the positive and negative experiences you have had.
Many thanks for your help.

Hi Anne I have had a few sessions of Botox and the first was only one that made a difference, I must have been one of the 5% as the second last was fairly horrendous and I found I could not keep my head up. I have since decided not to have any more. My head still does its thing. It very much needs to be your decision. I wish you all the best what ever you decide.
Hi Anne. I've had injections for Dystonia since December 2017. I've had some improvement in the muscle spasms and only had an adverse reaction once, when the dosage was too high and I had a floppy head for 2 weeks. In general I get relief for 7/8 weeks before the spasms come back.
You'll be started on a low dose at first, which is increased over 2 or 3 appointments. I didn't get much relief the first time but it's improved since then. I was started on 60 units of xeomin, I'm now on 110 units.
Thank you for your reply, I am sorry that you had a bad experience but pleased that on the whole the injections seem to be agreeing with you. Its a shame if you need injections more frequently, but you can only have them every 3 months. Thanks again for your reply.
