Welcome to the forum. There could be several reasons why some people turn to alcohol during weekends. It could be addiction and some are born and some grow into this. But the key is the inability to lead a life without alcohol. Since you are coming from a family of alcoholics, you probably got the gene. I sobered up after entering the fellowship of AA and learning a lot about alcoholism. I saw the fatality of the situation I was in and the solution that AA provided was convincing that i pursued my recovery using the 12 steps of AA. You may visit one of the local groups where you live. Also you may read the book AA online and learn more about alcoholism.

""If you have a drinking problem, we hope you may pause in reading one of the forty-two personal stories and think: "Yes that happened to me" or more important. "Yes, I have felt like that" or most important, "Yes, I believe this program can work for me too".

One of the best stories is the story of the co-founder Bill W. Here is the link to the story:

Hi, welcome. Lots of people who have an alcohol reliance don't drink everyday and sometimes have stints of sobriety. It can be problematic as the stereotype of an alcoholic is someone drinking dawn to dusk. Basically both can cause you enormous harm and if you can't stop it's still a huge problem. I believe emotional support and emotional sobriety are key. Reading quit lit and listening to sobriety podcasts are a way of gradually eroding the value we give alcohol in society. It's also important to understand how to switch off without using alcohol. Education helps us to rewire our brains. I am hoping your therapist is supportive of your sobriety amazingly some are not. Consider a sober coach or a sober group. Try sober stories on Spotify.

Congrats on going 3 days! Keep it up - you can do this. Maybe the structure of week days helps you not drink? Just a guess.
