I've kinda got stuck in a rute drinking every night tell myself it's okay when it's not. Had a wake up call blood results show abnormal liver. I don't know why I can't stop at one it's a habit. Always a reason, but I blackout. Every morning the same thing I say not tonight but all I can do when I get in is open a bottle! I broke down to my freind and now have support and not drunk for 4 days

Hi , from one Scooby to another! We share that "habit" of saying "I'm not drinking tonight", then just breaking it. I've been managing to be drink free 4-5 days a week for about a month now, so it is possible.

You're not alone. Best wishes for your journey to a new you.

Hi Scooby, I am in my 50s too. Daily drinking is an easy trap to fall into and a hard one to struggle out of. After lots of day 1s and moderation attempts I am now 250 days sober but not complacent. Read lots of quit lit like ' The unexpected joy of being sober' listen to podcasts just search sober on Spotify podcasts it's free. I had to re-educate my brain to understand that alcohol was adding nothing to my life. I am so glad you have a friend for support. I pop up on lots of sober groups online. Make your sobriety your first priority and don't let anything change your goal. Eat early in the evening it helps stave off cravings especially protein. Being sober is joyful (eventually) you have nothing to loose and everything to gain

Yeh. I'm on about ~20 units a week on average. But im in my late 40s and it doesnt really give me any benefit, its the opposite. It's a temporary check out to stop my brain for a little while.

Replace the booze with another drink - NA beer and wine (yeah, I know they're not the same), also kombucha and a zillion types of teas. Try a supplement NAC (N-Acetyl-Cysteine) and add a high quality multivitamin with plenty of B Vitamins and Vitamin C.
