Admitting a problem

I have been drinking too much for maybe the last five years. Not to the point of physical addiction but to the extent it's becoming problematic. I broke my hand last night drunk. I've got to address this sooner rather than later. So this is why I'm here. Watch this space

Hi, Ex Drinker,You have certainly given yourself a username to live upto, I wish you well.

I wish that I had acknowledged that I had a problem with alcohol at your age, so well done for that. As you grow older, drinking brings on other problems two of them being diabetes and hypertension both very scary conditions.

I don't have a physical addiction as most people would see it, needing a drink in the morning or having the dts.but there is no doubt that I am an alcoholic with all of the social issues and health problems brought on by years of excessive drinking.

This is a great place for advice or just to let others know how you are feeling, which is not always easy in our everyday lives. Or just come on for a rant when you have let yourself down, like I do.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forum. One can determine whether he has a problem or not, when one starts to either moderate or stay stopped. If he has trouble doing either, then he probably an alcoholic. If you are an alcoholic, then the only solution is to have a spiritual awakening. One of the vehicle’s is AA. If you need more info on the 12 steps there are some members including myself here who can help.

I had to stop drinking because of the consequences of my drinking. It took me a long time to become physically addicted to alcohol, but I was emotionally addicted from my first drink. Are you wanting to stop or cut back? Glad you’re here.

Thanks everyone for all the support. Feels like a good community to be part of. I don't think I can cut back, think I need to stop completely. Every time I try and moderate my intake I end up drinking too much. I think I'd be better without
