We Will Be Amazed Before We Are Half Way Through

Just checking in… Over the past few days, I had three different people tell me that I looked different. One person complemented my skin, another asked if I was working out, and another said I looked good. I stepped on the scale and it turns out I’ve lost 12 pounds! In addition to looking better, I’m actually feeling better. My mental health symptoms are much more manageable and I feel like I have a purpose and a Higher Power of my understanding. At only 7 months of sobriety, I’m a work in progress and some days are better than others, but overall I’m so pleased with the journey (I’m on Step 6, by the way). Honestly, I’m so grateful that I was beat down by alcohol as badly as I was; it allowed me to truly accept that I was (and am) powerless over alcohol and that I can’t do it on my own.

Thank you so much for sharing and glad to hear you’re “entirely ready.” Happy some of the promises are coming true (each step has its own set). Keep up the good work.

In AA after we are convinced we are alcoholic and we need to rely on a higher power, we take an inventory of ourselves. At that point, we have a list of our character defects/short-coming. We get ready to have them removed by our higher power (step 6) and we humbly as our HP to remove them (step 7). We can pretty much move to rest the steps at this point. Like start living this way of life (step 10) watching for our short-comings (new and old) to crop up and work on it immediately and also work on making amends. We are restored to sanity by now. The obsession to drink should be gone at this phase.

Well done! What and inspiration to others to keep going, the rewards do come with commitment and patience ! I remember when I saw an elderly neighbour after a couple of years, she had previously had a smoking and alcohol addiction but had managed to kick both and she looked radiant with health.
