Day 3 no drinking

Hi I know I have a drinking problem and have tried to cut back but end up returning to alcohol when a stressful event happens. I drank a bottle of wine a night for 6 weeks and I finally had to stop for my mental and physical health. Did anyone else get really bad stomach upset and palpitations when they stopped.

Great news, L83. It takes a lot of courage to decide to stop.

I never had the symptoms you describe (fidgety, nightmares, cold sweats, yes) but they’re not surprising if it had such a hold on you.

All strength on your new journey.

It Is great news that you stopped.

I stopped many times and had various symptoms of withdrawals depending on what stage of my drinking was. Stomach and heart palpitations included. If your symptoms worsen or you don’t start feeling better, go to the doctors. Good luck. 🍀

Well done to decide to give it up . I think we all go back down that route when something bad happens in our life . I know I do . I did not have the symptoms you describe but I haven’t given up completely just cut back a lot . Good luck and keep visiting this site . X

Well done for doing this. I also got into the habit of drinking every night. I made the decision to reduce my drinking 13 days ago and have drank once since then and I can’t say that I enjoyed it as much as I enjoy a clear head in the morning and no stomach ache. I have started C25K as this motivates me not to drink at night as I need the benefits to my physical and mental health that this brings me. Keep up the good work - keep in mind what and why you are doing this for.

Well done you! Tummy problems are standard when going through withdrawal. It will settle and so will you. One day at a time. 😉
